CNG Price Hike Today: Delhi Rates Rise Again For Fourth Time, Up Rs 6/kg In Two Weeks; Latest Prices on 26 May

Delhi's commuters woke up to another increase in transport fuel costs on Tuesday, 26 May, as CNG prices were raised once again, tightening pressure on household budgets and the city's vast network of auto drivers, cab operators, school vans and delivery vehicles.

CNG Price Hike Today: Delhi Rates Jump Again, Rs 6/kg Hike Since 15 May

With the latest revision of Rs 2 per kilogram, the retail price of CNG in the national capital has climbed to Rs 83.09 per kg, marking the fourth increase in less than two weeks.

CNG Price Hike

The repeated hikes are beginning to weigh heavily on everyday commuters who depend on CNG-powered transport for affordable travel across Delhi-NCR. For thousands of auto-rickshaw drivers and small transport operators, the steady rise in fuel prices is steadily eroding already narrow daily earnings. Many fear that if prices continue to rise at this pace, fare revisions may become unavoidable in the coming weeks.

The latest increase comes amid a broader surge in fuel-related costs across the country. While petrol and diesel prices were left unchanged on Tuesday, both fuels had already witnessed four rounds of hikes between 15 May and 26 May.

Commercial LPG Gas Cylinder Prices Surge 47% Amid Global Conflict

Domestic LPG cylinder prices have remained stable so far, offering limited relief to households. However, commercial LPG cylinders have seen a sharp spike of nearly 47 percent since the beginning of the ongoing geopolitical conflict, increasing operational costs for restaurants, hotels and small businesses.

Delhi CNG Rates Increased To Rs 83.09/kg After Fresh Price Hike

What has intensified public concern is the frequency of the CNG revisions. Delhi has now witnessed four separate hikes within the same month. Prices were first raised by Rs 2 per kg on 15 May, followed by an increase of Re 1 on 18 May, another Re 1 on 23 May, and now a fresh Rs 2 jump on 26 May. Together, these revisions have pushed CNG prices higher by Rs 6 per kg in just 11 days.

The impact is particularly severe in Delhi-NCR, where a large share of public and semi-public transport depends on CNG. Autos, taxis, app-based cabs, school transport vehicles and even several private cars rely on the fuel because it has traditionally been cheaper than petrol and diesel.

Behind the domestic price surge lies a rapidly worsening global energy situation. International crude oil and gas prices have risen sharply following escalating tensions in the Middle East.

Supply disruptions linked to restrictions in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's most critical energy shipping routes, have triggered concerns over global fuel availability. India, which imports a major share of its crude oil and natural gas requirements, remains particularly vulnerable to such disruptions.

Crude Oil Crosses $100 Per Barrel Amid Conflict, Raising Risk Of Further Fuel Price Hikes

Global crude prices have now crossed the 100-dollar-per-barrel mark, compared with nearly 70 dollars before the conflict intensified. Analysts warn that unless geopolitical tensions ease and supply routes stabilise, imported fuel costs could remain elevated for an extended period, keeping pressure on domestic fuel pricing mechanisms.

For ordinary citizens, however, the issue is far more immediate than global market dynamics. Every fuel revision directly affects the cost of commuting, transportation of goods, food delivery, and essential services. With CNG becoming steadily more expensive alongside petrol, diesel and commercial LPG, inflationary pressure on daily life is beginning to deepen across urban India.
