CNG, PNG Prices In Maharashtra 2024: The compressed natural gas (CNG) gets costlier in regions of Maharashtra including Pune with effect from September 9. The Maharashtra Natural Gas Limited (MNGL) has hiked prices of CNG while keeping prices of PNG unchanged across its key networks. This will be the second hike by the oil and gas company in two months.

CNG Prices In September 2024:

As per its website, the company revised CNG rates with effect from midnight of September 9, 2024.

Accordingly, in regions of PMC (Pune Municipal Corporation) Area, Fursungi, Pisoli, and Ambegaon, the price of CNG is set at Rs 85.90/- per Kg, a hike of Rs 0.90 per kg compared to the previous price.

A similar hike is levied on CNG sold in PCMC (Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation) Area + Hinjewadi + Chakan). The price here is Rs 85.90/- per Kg as well.

Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) is nothing but natural gas compressed for the use of the transport sector. Due to its low density, it is compressed to a pressure of 220-250 kg/sq.cm to enhance the vehicle on-board storage capacity.

The principal constituents of natural gas are Methane and Ethane. Natural gas is drawn from the pipeline system for compression and distributed as CNG. Predominantly, Methane is available in the lean gas form and hence CNG contains mostly methane (normally not less than 85%).

Despite the latest hike in prices, citizens would still get to save up to 49% on the new rate of CNG on their passenger cars. compared to petrol price, while the savings will be around 27% as against diesel prices in the city of Pune.

PNG Prices - September 2024:

On the other hand, the company kept prices of PNG unchanged. These are:

- PCMC (Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation) Area + Hinjewadi + Chakan) :- Rs. 49.90/- per SCM

- PMC (Pune Municipal Corporation) Area + Fursungi + Pisoli + Ambegaon) :- Rs. 49.90/- per SCM

PNG offers the convenience of ensuring 24x7 uninterrupted supplies at all times, saving on the hassle of booking cylinders i.e. complete logistics for sourcing the necessary fuel.

PNG is competitive with domestic LPG and other industrial fuels like HSD/LSHS/LDO/FO/Naphtha. PNG is one of the cheapest and cleanest fuels for use by the power sector.

A domestic/commercial/industrial consumer pays upfront for the price of LPG Cylinder/ other liquid fuels, whereas, in the case of PNG, the billing cycle is usually monthly/once in two months. This saves on working capital for the commercial sector. Industrial consumer saves on product losses, usually incurred on account of spillage in the case of liquid fuels like HSD & LDO etc. as payment is done for the quantity delivered, whereas for PNG, payment is made for actual usage, as per the company's website.
