The Indian Railways is getting ready to launch a brand-new Vande Bharat Sleeper train, and it's set to make long-distance travel faster and more comfortable than ever. After the huge success of the regular Vande Bharat Express trains (which have chair cars for daytime travel), this new version comes with sleeper coaches which are perfect for overnight journeys.
One of the first routes where this train will run is Delhi to Howrah, connecting the national capital with Kolkata in West Bengal. This train will one a good options on the route, after the Rajdhani Express and Duronto Express, Poorva express, Netaji Express Etc.
How Fast Is the Delhi-to-Howrah Vande Bharat Sleeper Train?
The Vande Bharat Sleeper Express will cover the distance of about 1,449 km in less than 15 hours, which is much faster than most existing trains on this route as per reports. Vande Bharat Trains generally run at a top speed of 180 - 160km/h, which is expected to be the same for this sleeper version and it make it the fastest train between Delhi and Howrah once it starts.
What Are The Stops Of Vande Bharat Sleeper Trains?
The Delhi-to-Howrah Vande Bharat Sleeper train will stop at some important cities and some major junctions along the way which are the common routes for most other trains like Rajdhani Express These include Kanpur Central, Prayagraj Junction, DD Upadhyaya Junction, Gaya Junction, Dhanbad Junction, and Asansol Junction. This is going to be a very good option for passengers from different parts of northern and eastern India who can also board this premium train.

Vande Bharat Sleeper Coaches Details & Tickets Cost
This train will have 16 coaches in total, which are being built by BEML (Bharat Earth Movers Ltd), who will use the Integrated Coach Facility Technology, which includes 11 AC 3-tier coaches (a budget-friendly sleeper option), 4 AC 2-tier coaches (a bit more spacious and private), and 1 First AC coach (top-level comfort).
While official fares are still to be confirmed, here's the expected price range as per the ET report. For the AC 3-tier, the ticket price is expected to be Rs. 3,000 approx., while in the AC 2-tier Vande Bharat sleeper train, it is expected to be ₹4,000 approx. Finally, the First Class AC would cost Rs. 5,100 approx.
Train Timings & Launch Date
According to early estimates as mentioned in ET Now report, the Delhi to Howrah Vande Bharat Sleeper train will leave New Delhi at 5:00 PM and will probably reach Howrah at 8:00 AM the next day.
The return journey from Howrah is also expected to follow the same timing of 5:00 PM to 8:00 AM. The exact launch date hasn't been announced yet by Indian Railways, but it's expected to start sometime in late 2025. So if you're planning to travel between Delhi and Kolkata, you might soon have a brand-new, high-speed option.
More Vande Bharat Sleeper Trains Coming Soon
It's not just the Delhi-Howrah route; the Indian Railways is also getting ready to launch Vande Bharat Sleeper trains on many other routes across the country. According to reports, work is also in progress to introduce Vande Bharat sleeper trains to the upcoming routes like Bengaluru to Mangaluru and Thiruvananthapuram to Mangaluru, which will make travel between these cities faster and more comfortable.
