One day after the ministry announced import restrictions on import laptop and tablet and other devices, a senior official said businesses and dealers could import IT hardware, laptops, tablets, and other items.
The government on Thursday announced in a notification that it will immediately impose limitations on the importation of laptops, tablets, and personal computers that come under the HSN 8741 category.

Under the newly updated production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme for IT hardware, the move has been announced with the intention of promoting domestic manufacturing of these products.
The licence required for such imports will be granted within 5 minutes, according to the secretary of the Ministry of electronics and information technology, as the DGFT licence portal is already operational and will be valid for a year.
There is no import restriction. One day after the ministry announced import restrictions, a senior official stated businesses and dealers could import IT hardware, laptops, tablets, and other items.
On Friday, the Ministry of Electronics and IT in a tweet said, "Import of #ITHardware devices allowed with a valid licence."
A licence for imports has already been requested by two businesses, according to the official. He furtehr said that a single business might apply for many licences.
This restriction has nothing to do with the allegedly low adoption of PLI 2.0. He noted that 44 businesses, including HP, have already signed up for PLI 2.0 schemes.
