Cryptocurrencies At Sky High: Bitcoin Tops $75,000, On Track For Biggest Weekly Gains In 2 Years; 85,000 Next?

The cryptocurrency market witnessed a strong rally on August 21, 2026, with the dominator, Bitcoin, skyrocketing over 8% and crossing the $75,000 mark. In percentage terms, digital coins like XRP zoomed by over 18% in a single day. But what needs to be noted is that the cryptocurrency market has been in a blockbuster rally for a week now, with top giant cryptos rising in the range of 10% to 30%. Improving liquidity conditions and stronger demand is said to be the main reasons. That said, where is Bitcoin headed and what should investors do next?

Cryptocurrency Prices Today, August 21, 2026:

At the time of writing, Bitcoin traded around $75,390 with over 8% gains, as per the Coinbase real-time tracker. Bitcoin's rivals such as Ethereum zoomed by nearly 5% to trade around $2,370. These two cryptos hold between 50 and 70% weightage in all crypto markets.

Other cryptocurrencies such as Binance's BNB surged 6% to trade around $665.17, while Solana rallied 6% as well to $90.76. TRON and HYPE are also up 2% each.

In the top 10 basket, XRP emerges as the top gainer with over an 18.3% surge to trade around $1.31 followed by Elon Musk-backed Dogecoin, which is trading at $0.08293 with over 10% gains.

"Bitcoin is trading near $74,700, up about 7.4% in 24 hours, as improving liquidity conditions and stronger institutional demand support the market. The rally followed the US Treasury's decision to increase certain long-dated bond buybacks to at least $4 billion per operation. Meanwhile, US spot Bitcoin ETFs attracted about $1.11 billion between August 17 and 20," said Vikram Subburaj, CEO, Giottus.com.

He added that risk appetite has also spread to altcoins. Ethereum is up around 4%, BNB about 6%, while XRP has gained roughly 16%, suggesting investors are moving beyond Bitcoin as confidence improves.

Bitcoin, XRP, Ethereum, Solana, Dogecoin Star Performers In Week

The latest rally in cryptocurrency leads to one of the strongest weekly gains. In 7 sessions, Bitcoin advances 20%, which will become its best weekly performance in over two years.

Traders returned to cryptos after the US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent declared to double the size of its long-dated bond buybacks, which pushed treasury yields lower but ignited buying momentum for Bitcoin and others.

Another driving factor is the latest urge of President Donald Trump's to Congress for passing the stalled cryptocurrency legislation bill, CLARITY ACT. This is expected to be positive for cryptos. The US president has also signaled to regulate Hyperliquid, a decentralized exchange that has been much awaited. This pushed HYPE's price on the crypto market.

That said, Ethereum is up by 25.6% in 7 sessions, while XRP skyrocketed over 31% in weekly performance. Solana and Hyperliquid gained 20% and 30% as well. Doge is up by 20% as well.

What To Expect In Bitcoin, Cryptos?

"The next challenge is whether Bitcoin can hold the 68,500-70,000 breakout zone and sustain a move above $75,000," said Subburaj.

Another analyst, Ali Martinez said, Bitcoin has built a strong support zone between $61,849 and $63,111, where more than 2 million BTC were previously transacted. More importantly, the URPD shows very little resistance ahead."

"If Bitcoin breaks above $75,733, the next major supply cluster doesn't appear until $83,307-$84,569, where roughly 1 million BTC previously changed hands," the analyst said.

Meanwhile, technical analyst, Crypto Patel on X said, "Bitcoin has reclaimed the broken trendline, but the real test is happening NOW." This analyst believes that if Bitcoin breaks and holds above $82.8K, then $100K will become the next target. If it losses momentum, then $50K target could come to play for Bitcoin.

For HYPE, Crypto Patel said, "HYPE is already very close to the HTF Bearish OB at $72-$76, making this a high-confluence short area IMO. If price gets rejected here, a 20-30% downside move toward the Bullish OB at $53-$56 is possible."

What Should Investors Do?

The expert advices investors should avoid chasing a sharp daily rally or using excessive leverage. Staggered entries and smaller position sizes are preferable ahead of US PCE data on August 26 and the September Fed meeting.
