Dangerous Heatwave Alarm! IMD Warns Delhi NCR With Yellow Alert For 3 Days, Temperature To Reach 42°C

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a 'yellow alert' for Delhi, forecasting heatwave conditions from Monday to Wednesday. With temperatures expected to rise above 40°C in these three days, Delhi NCR residents are advised to take necessary precautions, including staying hydrated, avoiding prolonged sun exposure, and staying in cool, shaded areas to prevent heat-related health issues.

The maximum temperature in Delhi is forecast to range between 40 and 42 degrees Celsius on Monday and Tuesday, according to the IMD. Wednesday is also expected to see similar conditions.

In 21 cities across states, including Delhi, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Odisha, the government has forecast that heatwave conditions will continue in the next seven days.

Heatwave Alert in Delhi NCR

According to IMD guidelines, a heatwave atmosphere is forming in the Delhi-NCR region. It happens when the temperature rises to at least 40°C and is 4.5°C higher than usual. So, if the temperature is much hotter than normal, it is considered a heatwave.

Additionally, the night-time temperature is expected to stay quite warm, likely staying between 21°C and 23°C, which is also higher than usual. This means it will feel hot both during the day and at night, increasing the risk of heat-related issues. It's important to stay cool and hydrated during such conditions.

Residents of Delhi should brace themselves for hot days ahead, as temperatures are predicted to reach 42 degrees Celsius by April 10. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reports that in the upcoming days, a severe heatwave is expected to engulf Northwest India, raising mercury levels throughout the area.

As of 5:32 pm today, as per Accuweather data, the temperature in Delhi is approximately 41°C, making it a dangerously hot and hazy day. Residents are advised to take extra precautions as prolonged exposure to this intense heat can lead to dehydration and even heatstroke. It is important to stay hydrated, avoid the sun whenever possible, and take breaks in cool, shaded areas if you need to be outside.

Orange Alert Issued for Delhi NCR Over Forest Fire Risk

In addition to the extreme heat, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange Alert for Delhi NCR from 5:32 pm on Thursday, April 3, until 5:30 pm on Thursday, April 10. The alert signals a very high risk of forest fires in the region, especially in forested areas of Delhi NCR. Residents should be cautious and avoid any activities that could trigger a fire, especially in forested zones, as the dry conditions make it an ideal environment for fire outbreaks.

Delhi Weather Prediction Tomorrow: Delhi Temperature on Tuesday

Delhi has seen comparatively warm weather on Monday. According to the IMD forecast for tomorrow, there will be strong surface winds and bright skies all day. It is anticipated that the minimum temperature will be approximately 21 degrees Celsius, while the maximum temperature will reach 42 degrees Celsius on Tuesday. Surface winds will probably blow between 10 and 20 kmph, with rare gusts of up to 30 kmph.

The national capital saw a maximum temperature of 38 degrees Celsius on Sunday, according to the most recent data collected by the Safdarjung Observatory.

In the meantime, the national capital's air quality is still worrisome. The Air Quality Index (AQI) values in Delhi on Monday are as follows, per statistics from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB): Anand Vihar (292), Chandni Chowk (198), ITO (209), Najafgarh (165), Okhla Phase II (293), RK Puram (221), Patparganj (252), and Wazirpur (260).

Red Alert in Gujarat

Additionally, a red alert has been issued for Gujarat, specifically for the Kutch and Saurashtra regions, which are already experiencing severe heat. Gujarat will be under an orange warning from April 8 to April 10. On Sunday, Kandla in Gujarat recorded the country's highest temperature at 44°C, according to the IMD.

According to the IMD, people should stay inside during the hottest afternoon hours and drink plenty of water, especially if they are elderly or have health issues.
