Underworld Don Dawood Ibrahim's Top Investment In Properties Across 16 Countries, Net Worth Over Rs 55,000 Cr

Underworld don, Dawood Ibrahim is back in the limelight. This time, it was reported that this notorious gangster who has ruled this title for decades and has been on the wanted list in both India and the United States, has been poisoned and hospitalised. The non-official news spread like wildfire across the globe, however, it has been debunked. As per the latest report, the Indian authorities have confirmed that the infamous Dawood is neither poisoned nor dead.

Ibrahim, aged 67, is known by many names such as gangster, crime lord, and drug lord. But this crime lord is also among the top five richest criminals in the world as of now.

As per Forbes report, Ibrahim is estimated to have a net worth of approximately $6.7 billion as of May 2015. However, this net worth could be higher since there are no accounts made after May 2015 in Ibrahim's wealth.

But currently, this $6.7 billion wealth is approximately Rs 55,741.65 crore.

Apart from being wanted for charges including murder, extortion, targeted killing, drug trafficking, and terrorism, Ibrahim has invested heavily in the real estate market with properties spread in 16 countries across five continents.

Earlier, a report of September 2017 by UK's Mirror said that Ibrahim owns a hotel in Warwickshire and other residential properties across the Midlands.

Other media reports earlier have stated that Dawood also owns a huge garage on St John Wood Road London which is speculated to be used for several illegal activities by him.

A PTI report in February 2018, cited a 'The Times' report which revealed that Dawood's vast property portfolio is spread across the Midlands and south-east in the UK as well as India, the Unit United Arab Emirates, Spain, Morocco, Turkey, Cyprus and Australia. Not just documents seen by this newspaper also allege that on Ibrahim's behalf his right-hand man, Muhammed Iqbal "Mirchi" Memon, accrued a vast property portfolio in the UK which includes hotels, mansions, tower blocks and houses in suburbs in the south-east of England.

Notably, in 2020 alone, the Indian government sold off Dawood's six properties in his ancestral village in Ratnagiri district in coastal Konkan in Maharashtra. Indian government organized an e-auction of his properties under the Smugglers and Foreign Exchange Manipulators (Forfeiture of Property) Act (SAFEMA), 1976.

Indian government who suspects Dawood's involvement in both the 1993 and 2008 terrorist attacks in Mumbai, earlier in November 2017, had auctioned Dawood's three properties, including the famous Rounaq Afroz Restaurant, also known as Delhi Zaika.

Dawood is said to be carrying his businesses via his 'D-Company' which was launched in the 1970s. He is the sole boss of the company.

He was born on 26 December 1955 to a Konkani Muslim family in Khed Maharashtra, India. But Dawood gained popularity when he lived in the hustle-bustle of Dongri region in India's financial hub, Mumbai where he attended Ahmed Sailor High School, from which he later dropped out. His father, Ibrahim Kaskar, worked as a head constable with the Mumbai Police and his mother, Amina Bi, was a homemaker. He started committing fraud, theft and robbery in his teens and even was part of local gangs. But when to created his own gang in the late 1970s.

Once upon a time, Irabim was non as the second richest criminal, after Colombian drug lord, narcoterrorist, and politician, Pablo Escobar whose estimated net worth of $25 billion was frozen. But currently, Dawood holds the title of fifth richest criminal, following Semion Mogilevich, a Ukrainian-born Russian Mafia who has an estimated net worth of $6.8 billion.

Currently, there is a $25 million bounty placed to capture Dawood by the United Nations Security Council in 2003 and designated as a global terrorist. Also, India's National Investigation Agency has placed a bounty of Rs 25 lakh on him in 2022. Further, as per Forbes website, remains a major point of contention on the subcontinent. India insists he resides in Karachi. Pakistan denies any knowledge of him.
