The Delhi government's excise department has granted a licence to the Delhi Consumers Cooperative Wholesale Store Ltd. (DCCWS) to open a retail liquor store in the arrival area of Terminal-3 at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport, officials revealed on Sunday. This marks the first L-10 liquor store at IGI airport by any Delhi government agency under the current excise regime, according to an excise department official.

The new store will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, unlike other retail liquor shops in Delhi which operate from 10 am to 10 pm. The official noted that this self-service store spans approximately 750 square feet, allowing customers to walk in and select their preferred brands independently. All national and international brands registered with the excise department are available at this store.
Strategic Location and Payment Facilities
Positioned strategically at Terminal-3, the L-10 liquor store aims to serve a large number of customers in and around Delhi Airport, which is a significant commercial hub. The location will also help curb the illegal supply of non-duty paid liquor from neighbouring states, particularly around the Haryana-Delhi border. To facilitate transactions, the store accepts various payment methods including UPI, credit cards, and debit cards.
Currently, only duty-free liquor stores operate in the arrival and departure areas of Terminal-3 at Delhi Airport, catering exclusively to international travellers. There are no liquor stores at any of the three terminals for domestic travellers or the numerous staff working there. This new store will address this gap by providing services to domestic passengers and airport employees.
Customer Convenience and Comparative Pricing
To enhance customer convenience, a comparative rate chart of different liquors sold in other parts of the country will be displayed on LED screens within the store. This initiative aims to assist general customers in making informed purchasing decisions. The official highlighted that this move is expected to attract a significant number of customers due to its strategic location and comprehensive range of products.
The introduction of this retail liquor store is seen as a significant step towards improving customer service at IGI Airport. By offering a wide selection of brands and round-the-clock availability, it aims to meet the needs of both domestic travellers and airport staff effectively.
This development signifies an important milestone for the Delhi government's excise department as it expands its reach within one of India's busiest airports. The new L-10 liquor store is set to provide enhanced convenience and accessibility for those travelling through Terminal-3 at IGI Airport.
