Delhi Government Rolls Out 'Business Blaster' Programme for Budding Student Entrepreneurs

Education Minister Atishi announced on Thursday that the Delhi Government will launch the Business Blaster programme for the 2024-25 academic session. The initiative will receive Rs 40 crore in seed money. The programme aims to attract approximately 2,45,000 students, giving them a platform to transform their innovative ideas into startups.

Seed Money and Student Participation

Atishi highlighted that the government has allocated Rs 40 crore as seed money for the Business Blasters programme. This initiative is expected to engage around 2,45,000 students, who will have the chance to develop their entrepreneurial skills by starting their own businesses. The programme has been running in Delhi government schools for the past three years, targeting students in classes 11 and 12.

The minister noted that about 40,000 ideas and startups have already emerged from this programme. These ventures include products such as perfumes, chocolates, eco-friendly items, and technology solutions. Atishi emphasised that this year’s participants will likely become job providers even before completing their studies.

Success Stories and Public Investment

Atishi shared details of successful startups from the Business Blasters programme. One notable startup is RKE Moulds, which manufactures moulds for bottles. This venture currently employs 20 people and generates a monthly income of Rs 13.5 lakh. Another successful startup is Dark Chocobitz, which produces customised chocolates and employs 40 women.

The top 150 startups from the programme are open for public investment. This opportunity allows these student-led ventures to gain additional funding and support from external investors. The initiative aims to foster entrepreneurship and self-employment among students, making them job creators rather than job seekers.

Expansion to Private Schools

The minister also mentioned that some private schools have voluntarily joined the Business Blasters programme. The Delhi government is extending opportunities to these schools to participate in the initiative. This expansion aims to broaden the reach of the programme and provide more students with entrepreneurial opportunities.

Atishi stated that last year’s success saw Delhi government school students not only starting their own businesses but also providing employment to others. She expressed optimism that this year’s participants would replicate this success and contribute positively to the economy.

The Business Blasters programme continues to promote innovation and entrepreneurship among young students in Delhi. By providing seed money and support, the initiative helps students turn their ideas into viable businesses, fostering a culture of self-employment and job creation.
