More than 20,000 police and paramilitary personnel have reportedly been deployed across the capital, while security has been tightened around central Delhi and key entry points. Here is what will remain open and what will be affected on October 10.
57 Delhi Metro Stations To Have Gates Closed
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has announced restrictions at 57 metro stations from 9 pm on October 9 and continuing on October 10 until further notice. Some of the stations reported to be affected include Janpath, Patel Chowk, Central Secretariat, Lok Kalyan Marg, Rajiv Chowk, New Delhi, Udyog Bhawan, Mandi House, Barakhamba Road, ITO, Delhi Gate and Khan Market.
Passengers travelling through central Delhi should therefore check their route before leaving.
Delhi Mail And Express Trains Services Cancelled
Indian Railways has cancelled Mail and Express trains scheduled to arrive at New Delhi and Hazrat Nizamuddin railway stations between 4 am and 2 pm on October 10.
Trains departing from their originating stations after 2 pm on October 9 and scheduled to reach either of the two stations during the affected period have also been cancelled at source.
Delhi Liquor Shops Closed On October 9 And 10
Delhi has also declared a two-day closure of retail liquor outlets. The Excise Department has ordered liquor shops across the capital to remain closed on October 9 and October 10. The restriction also covers certain liquor outlets located inside malls.
Access Restricted In Jantar Mantar
The main focus of the security operation is around Jantar Mantar, where the CJP has planned its October 10 demonstration. Delhi Police has denied permission for the protest.Barricades have been placed around areas approaching Jantar Mantar, including the Ashoka Road-Jantar Mantar roundabout, with access to the protest site restricted.
Delhi Police has also imposed prohibitory restrictions under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) across the New Delhi district.
Schools And Colleges
There is no government order closing all Delhi schools and colleges on October 10. For instance, Sardar Patel Vidyalaya moved Classes 6 to 12 online, according to reports.
Offices Closure
There is no order for a blanket closure of private offices or commercial establishments across Delhi. However, employees working in central Delhi may face difficulties commuting because of metro restrictions, railway cancellations, barricading and increased security checks.
Banks Closed On October 10
Banks across India are scheduled to remain closed on Saturday, October 10, as it falls on the second Saturday of the month.
The Reserve Bank of India follows a rule under which banks remain closed on the second and fourth Saturdays of every month.
This is therefore a regular bank holiday, rather than a special closure announced because of the CJP protest.
Digital banking services, internet banking, mobile banking and UPI services are expected to remain available.
Hospitals And Essential Services
Emergency and essential services are expected to continue, although people travelling through central Delhi may face additional security checks and traffic restrictions.
