Delhi Rains: IMD Gives Red-Orange-Yellow Alert Across Delhi, Gurgaon, Faridabad, More; Airlines Issue Advisory

After issuing a three-hour red alert in the capital city, Delhi, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued orange to yellow alerts across regions of the capital on August 7, while predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall. Orange alert is allotted for places like north, south, central, east and west Delhi. An orange warning is assigned on Gurgaon and Faridabad. A yellow alert is assigned on Gautam Nagar and Ghaziabad. Heavy rains are expected to continue even on August 8, with yellow alert warnings issued.

Delhi Rains Today:

In the early hours of August 7th, IMD had declared a red alert in Delhi for at least three hours. Over the past 24 hours till 8:30 am on August 7th, the city witnessed torrential rains with the highest records of 60.4 mm and 59.2 mm of rain in Lodi Road and Safdarjung.

Further, Delhi Ridge recorded 57 mm of rain, while Delhi University OBS and President House posted 39.2 mm and 35.2 mm of rains respectively. Ignou University, Mother International School and Pharma SCI And University recorded 39 mm, 30.2 mm and 42 mm of rainfall. Aya Nagar, Pitampura AWS, and Pragati Maidan saw 26.2 mm, 25 mm and 29.7 mm of rainfall over the last 24 hours.

IMD's latest update said, "Due to the influence of a low-pressure area over southwest Uttar Pradesh and nearby regions, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over northwest Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi on August 7."

"This week, heavy rainfall is likely to continue at isolated places over northwest and adjoining central India, as well as many parts of northeast India on most days," it added.

Orange Alerts In Delhi:

As of now, IMD has issued Orange alerts on North Delhi, Central Delhi, East Delhi, South West Delhi, North West and South Delhi areas. It further issued Orange alerts on Gurgaon and Faridabad.

IMD said, the city will witness overcast sky with continuous rain at most places. A few spells of light to moderate rain at some places, with heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places from afternoon to night of August 7.

Due to heavy rain predictions, IMD warns of major traffic disruption on roads. Increased chance of vehicle accident. Water accumulation in low lying areas and on roads.

Yellow Alerts Warning:

Further, it issued yellow alert on Ghaziabad and Gautam Budhnagar.

The weather will continue to be intense even on August 8 as IMD assigns Yellow alert across Delhi.

Delhi August 8 Weather Forecast:

IMD is predicting generally cloudy sky. A spell of vert light to light rain at many places with moderate rain at isolated places during early morning to noon of August 8, 2026. This will continue even in the evening and night.

IMD Advisory For Delhi Rains:

For both August 7 and August 8, IMD stated that citizens should check for traffic congestion on your route before leaving for your destination. Follow any traffic advisories that are issued in this regard. Avoid going to areas that face water logging problem often.

Following the intense spells, airlike Air India, Indigo, SpiceJet and Akasa Air has issued travel advisory.

Delhi Rains: Indigo Travel Advisory

"Due to adverse weather conditions in Delhi flight operations are impacted," adding Indigo, "We understand that extended wait times, both on the ground and onboard, may cause inconvenience, and we sincerely appreciate your patience."

Indigo issued the advisory on August 7, 2026.

It added, "If you're travelling today, we recommend checking your flight status on our website via http://bit.ly/3ZWAQXd or app before leaving for the airport. Also, please allow extra time for your commute, as slow-moving traffic may affect road travel en route to the airport."

Delhi Rains: SpiceJet Travel Advisory

In its X post, SpiceJet said, "Due to bad weather in Delhi (DEL), all departures/arrivals and their consequential flights might be affected. Passengers are requested to keep a check on their flight status via http://spicejet.com/#status."

Delhi Rains: Akasa Air & Air India Travel Advisory

Both the airlines have issued advisories on August 6. Air India said, 'Adverse weather conditions and airport congestion are affecting flight operations to and from Delhi," adding, "To ensure a smooth travel experience, we encourage our passengers to check the latest flight status at the following link before heading to the airport: https://airindia.com/in/en/manage/flight-status.html."

Earlier, Akasa Air said, "Due to heavy rainfall and waterlogging in certain parts of Delhi, we anticipate slow moving traffic and congestion on roads leading to the airport.
