Delhi Traffic Alert Today: BRICS Summit Rehearsals May Cause Major Delays; Check Affected Roads and Routes

Delhi commuters may face significant traffic disruptions on Tuesday, September 1, as authorities conduct extensive motorcade rehearsals ahead of the upcoming BRICS Summit. Traffic restrictions and diversions are expected across several important parts of the capital between 11:00 AM and 3:00 PM.

The restrictions are likely to affect people travelling through central Delhi, diplomatic areas and major routes connecting to the airport and railway stations. Delhi Traffic Police has urged commuters to plan their journeys carefully, leave early and consider using the Metro to avoid delays.

Delhi Traffic Restrictions: Which Roads May Be Affected?

Several prominent roads in New Delhi are expected to witness traffic regulation or temporary closures during the rehearsal period. These include Sardar Patel Marg, Mother Teresa Crescent, Mathura Road, Janpath, Ashoka Road and Shanti Path.

Restrictions are also expected around India Gate, C-Hexagon, Mandi House, Dhaula Kuan and Moti Bagh. Movement towards C-Hexagon and Connaught Place's Outer Circle from certain parts of Kasturba Gandhi Marg and Janpath may be restricted.

At Mandi House, traffic heading towards Feroz Shah Road, Bhagwan Das Road and Copernicus Marg may face restrictions. Vehicles may also be stopped or diverted at key entry points leading towards Mathura Road.

Traffic coming from Dhaula Kuan Flyover towards Sardar Patel Marg and from Moti Bagh Flyover towards Shanti Path may also be affected during the scheduled rehearsal.

Travelling to Delhi Airport? Check Traffic Restrictions and Alternative Routes

Passengers travelling to Indira Gandhi International Airport should allow extra time for their journey. The restrictions could affect road connectivity to Terminal 1, Terminal 2 and Terminal 3, particularly during the afternoon rehearsal window.

Delhi Traffic Police has advised passengers to consider alternative routes based on their starting location. Travellers coming from Gurugram can use NH-48 or Old Delhi-Gurugram Road and connect through alternative corridors towards the airport.

Those travelling from Dwarka can use the Sector 22-Dwarka Road route and the UER-II tunnel for access towards Terminal 3. Passengers coming from other parts of Delhi may also need to use Ring Road and other diversion routes depending on real-time traffic conditions.

The Metro, including the Airport Express Line, could be a more convenient option for many passengers during the restrictions. People with scheduled flights should leave well in advance, considering possible road diversions, airport security checks and airline reporting deadlines.

Delhi Railway Station Traffic Update

Train passengers travelling to New Delhi Railway Station, Old Delhi Railway Station and Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station may also experience delays due to traffic diversions.

People heading to New Delhi Railway Station may use alternative routes through ISBT Kashmiri Gate and Boulevard Road, while Ring Road may provide another option depending on their starting point.

Passengers travelling to Old Delhi Railway Station can also consider approaching through the ISBT Kashmiri Gate and Ring Road corridors. Those heading to Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station may find routes connecting through AIIMS, Ashram Chowk and Ring Road useful.

However, commuters should check live traffic conditions before starting their journey, as routes may be temporarily altered during motorcade movements.

Commercial Vehicles and Parking Restrictions in Delhi

Commercial vehicles will face restrictions on certain roads during the rehearsal period. Vehicles may not be allowed to travel beyond Ram Charan Aggarwal Chowk, also known as A-Point, towards W-Point.

The restrictions could affect local deliveries and the movement of goods in central parts of Delhi. Businesses and delivery operators may therefore need to plan their schedules accordingly.

Roadside parking will also be prohibited within 200 metres of designated controlled roads. Motorists have been advised to use only authorised parking areas to avoid penalties or the removal of vehicles.

Ambulances and Emergency Services to Get Priority

Ambulances, emergency response vehicles and essential service vehicles will continue to receive priority passage despite the restrictions. However, taxis, buses and autorickshaws may be diverted temporarily when VVIP motorcades move through specific areas.

For regular commuters, avoiding central and diplomatic corridors between 11:00 AM and 3:00 PM may be the best option. Those who cannot postpone their travel should leave with sufficient extra time and follow real-time instructions issued by Delhi Traffic Police.
