Delhi Weather On Red Alert, June 13: IMD Forecasts Heavy Rainfall, Lightning & Strong Winds Across NCR

After days of scorching temperatures and uncomfortable humidity, Delhites finally woke up to much-needed relief as rain lashed several parts of the city overnight. However, the cooler Delhi weather today comes with a serious warning.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Delhi weather forecasting thunderstorms, lightning, heavy rainfall and powerful winds that could reach speeds of up to 80 kmph.

The latest weather update has put the entire Delhi-NCR region on alert, with authorities asking residents to stay indoors during severe rainfall & thunderstorm activity in the region.

Delhi Weather Red Alert Issued As Severe Storm Approches

According to the IMD weather forecast, Delhi, Haryana and Chandigarh are expected to experience intense thunderstorm activity throughout the day.

A red alert is the highest category of weather warning issued by the IMD and is generally issued for potentially dangerous weather events that require immediate attention.

Delhi Rain Brings Relief From Heatwave Conditions

For the past several days, Delhi weather has been covered by intense heat, rising temperatures with high humidity levels that made outdoor conditions extremely uncomfortable.

The overnight rainfall has helped bring down temperatures across many parts of Delhi-NCR.

Thunderstorms, Lightning And 80 kmph Winds Expected

The IMD has warned that the biggest concern is not just very rainfall but the possibility of severe thunderstorms along with dangerous wind speeds that may reach up to 80 kmph in some areas of Delhi-NCR, Haryana and Chandigarh.

Such winds can uproot trees, damage hoardings, disrupt traffic and affect power supply in some vulnerable locations.

Multiple States Under Weather Alert

Apart from Delhi, thunderstorm and rain alerts have been issued for Bihar, Haryana, Chandigarh, Punjab, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. Strong winds and thunder squalls are also expected in Chhattisgarh, Gangetic West Bengal, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh and Karnataka.

The IMD has also predicted heavy rainfall in multiple regions on Saturday. States expected to receive heavy rain include Kerala, Mahe, Bihar, Odisha, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Uttarakhand, West Uttar Pradesh and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Heatwave Continues In Parts Of India

While Delhi weather has improved due to rainfall,Heatwave conditions are likely to continue over parts of Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, West Rajasthan and Vidarbha.
