Delhi is likely to witness a noticeable shift in weather conditions over the coming days, with temperatures set to rise sharply and bring back summer-like heat across the capital. After a relatively comfortable start to April, weather patterns are now changing, with forecasts indicating hotter and drier conditions ahead, according to Skyweather.

As per the India Meteorological Department's weekly outlook, maximum temperatures in Delhi are expected to remain above normal from April 14 onward. On April 14, daytime temperatures are likely to be 1.6°C to 3°C above normal, while minimum temperatures are expected to remain close to normal levels.

Delhi Weather Updates From April 14 to 17, 2026
For April 15 and 16, both maximum and minimum temperatures are projected to stay 1.6°C to 3°C above normal. By April 17, the maximum temperature is likely to reach around 40°C, marking a significant rise compared to earlier in the month, while minimum temperatures are expected to remain steady.
No Heatwave Yet, But Conditions Likely to Feel Oppressive
Despite the sharp rise in temperatures, a formal heatwave is not expected at this stage. However, the combination of high temperatures, reduced wind movement, and continuous sunshine is likely to make conditions feel significantly hotter, especially during afternoon hours.
Delhi Weather Turns Hot After Pleasant Start to April
In the first half of April, the national capital experienced relatively mild conditions, with daytime temperatures staying below seasonal averages and minimum temperatures remaining cooler by around 3°C to 4°C. However, this trend is now reversing as temperatures gradually climb back to normal levels and are expected to move above average in the coming days.
Delhi Temperature Set to Cross 38°C, May Touch 40°C
The base observatory at Safdarjung recorded a maximum temperature of 34.7°C over the weekend, which was around 1.4°C below normal. However, the situation is expected to change quickly, with temperatures likely to surge beyond 38°C between April 17 and April 19 as per Skyweather. Forecasts suggest that the mercury could approach the 40°C mark, making it the hottest spell of the season so far.
14 April Delhi Temperature & Weather Alert
Weather conditions are expected to feel more intense not just due to rising temperatures but also because of weakening surface winds. Earlier, moderate winds had helped keep conditions relatively comfortable. From April 14 onwards, wind speeds are expected to drop, while clear skies and strong sunshine will allow heat to build up during the day, increasing discomfort levels and heat stress across the city.
