The feature, called Current Booking / Current Availability, has been introduced to help travellers who could not plan their journey in advance.

What Is IRCTC Current Booking Facility?

The IRCTC current booking facility allows passengers to book confirmed train tickets as soon as 30 minutes before departure. Under this system, ticket booking opens four hours before the scheduled departure of the train and remains available until the final reservation chart is prepared, which is usually 30 minutes before departure.

Who Can Use Current Availability Booking?

The current availability feature is open to all passengers, including those travelling for urgent work, medical reasons, or unexpected family commitments. The facility is available across all classes, including AC classes, Sleeper class, and Second Seating.

How to Book Last-Minute Train Tickets Online

Passengers can easily book current availability tickets online through IRCTC.

Step 1: Visit the IRCTC website or mobile app
Step 2: Search for your train using the regular booking date
Step 3: Check seat status
Step 4: If it shows "Current Available", the seat can be booked instantly

The ticket issued is an e-ticket, just like regular online bookings.

Offline Booking Option Also Available

For passengers who prefer offline booking, Current Reservation Counters are available at railway stations. These counters allow travellers to check availability and book tickets during the current booking window, making the process accessible even without internet access.

While checking seat availability on IRCTC, passengers should select the normal journey date. If seats are open for last-minute booking, the status will clearly show "Current Available" which means that the seat can be booked under the current booking quota.
