Disbursement of Rs 1000 Crore Venture Fund for Space Sector Expected to Begin in Q1 FY26
The Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre (IN-SPACe) plans to make its first allocation from a Rs 1,000 crore venture capital fund aimed at advancing space technology. This is expected to occur in the first quarter of the next financial year, according to IN-SPACe Chairperson Pawan Goenka. He shared this information during the GeoSmart India 2024 event.

Venture Capital Fund for Space Startups
The Union Cabinet approved this substantial fund in October to support space sector startups. The initiative aims to assist around 40 startups, thereby accelerating the growth of India's private space industry. IN-SPACe has issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) to appoint fund managers, a crucial step in establishing the venture capital fund.
Goenka explained that the process involves compliance with SEBI regulations. "We have to go through the process of creating a venture capital fund. It is a SEBI process. Right now, we are in the process of selecting who the fund manager would be. We have already put out an RFP. Then we will select the fund manager. It is hard to say when the first disbursal would be made, but our first disbursement may happen in the first quarter of next financial year," he stated.
Draft Space Law and Future Missions
Addressing questions about the proposed Space Law, Goenka mentioned that it is currently in draft form. Public consultations are expected within a few months. During the fourth India-USA Space and Geospatial Business Summit, he highlighted that data plays a crucial role in both space and geospatial sectors.
India has ambitious plans for future Chandrayaan missions 4, 5, and 6, aiming for a USD 44 billion space sector by 2035. The India-US partnership is seen as vital for achieving this vision. "The India-US partnership will be crucial in realising this vision," Goenka was quoted as saying in a press release.
India-US Collaboration in Space
The collaboration between India and the US in space has been expanding, focusing on joint missions, satellite launches, and technological advancements. This partnership was underscored at the summit organised by the Geospatial World Chamber of Commerce and Geospatial World.
The summit gathered key figures from government, industry, academia, and research sectors. It aimed to explore and enhance the potential for innovation, economic growth, and sustainability within the geospatial and space sectors.
As IN-SPACe progresses with its plans, these initiatives are expected to significantly contribute to India's burgeoning space industry. The collaboration with international partners like the US will further strengthen these efforts.
