On November 4, stock exchanges will hold their regular one-hour special 'Muhurat' trading session between 6:15 and 7:15 p.m., a time outside of normal trading hours but determined by astrologically defined auspicious moments of the day.
This year's session will usher in Samvat 2078, which begins on Diwali, according to the Hindu calendar. Mahurat Trading is thought to bring success and fortune all year long.

As Diwali also marks the start of the New Year, Muhurat trading on this day is thought to bring money and prosperity for the rest of the year. The merchants on Dalal Street are looking forward to the New Year.
Prior to the Mahurat trade, Lakshmi Poojan will commence at 4.45 p.m., followed by the felicitation of vaccine warriors at 5.30 p.m. From 6.15 a.m., the opening bell ringing ceremony, known as Mahurat Trading, will begin.
For more than half a century, the trading world has observed stock trading on this day as part of an old symbolic tradition. To propitiate Goddess Lakshmi, the Indian goddess of wealth and prosperity, for her favours throughout the Samvat year, they believe it is a good omen to trade tokens on this day.
If you look at the past performance of indexes in these special trading sessions, you'll notice that they've always finished up with gains. Despite the fact that trading volume is often minimal and few stocks change over that brief period.
Commodity exchanges, like stock exchanges, offer Mahurat trading for investors. The new financial year begins for the business community with Diwali, when they perform the 'Chopda or Sharda Puja,' in which old account books or ledgers are closed and new ones are opened, signalling the start of a promising new business year.
According to the exchanges, a block deal session will run from 5.45 p.m. to 6 p.m., and a pre-open session will run from 6 p.m. to 6:08 p.m. Settlement responsibilities would apply to all trades made during the Diwali Muhurat trading session.
