Abraham Accords Expansion: Trump Urges Saudi Arabia Qatar And Pakistan To Sign Regional Peace Deal
Donald Trump has urged several Muslim-majority countries, led by Saudi Arabia and Qatar, to sign the Abraham Accords as negotiations with Iran continue. Trump framed the talks as a “complex puzzle” and claimed a breakthrough was near, while also suggesting that Iran, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Turkey and Pakistan should all eventually join the framework.
In a detailed post on Truth Social, Trump said discussions with regional leaders had shaped the proposal. Trump named Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and Pakistan’s army chief Asim Munir among those consulted. Trump also argued that Iran could later join if a separate agreement with Washington was reached.

Abraham Accords and Trump negotiations with Iran
The Abraham Accords were first concluded in 2020 during Trump’s presidency and involved normalisation deals between Israel and several Arab states. Existing signatories include the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain, while other large players, such as Saudi Arabia and Qatar, stayed out. These countries cited unresolved Palestinian grievances and wider security calculations for not formally signing earlier.
Trump claimed current members of the accords had seen major gains despite conflicts in West Asia. On Truth Social, Trump wrote: "The Abraham Accords have proven to be, for the countries involved (UAE, Bahrain, Morocco, Sudan, and Kazakhstan), a financial, economic, and social boom, even during this time of conflict and war, with the current members never even suggesting leaving, or taking so much as even a pause. The reason for this is that the Abraham Accords have been great for them, and will be even better for everybody, and bring true power, strength, and peace to the Middle East for the first time in 5,000 years. It will be a document respected like no other that has ever been signed, anywhere in the world," Trump described the initiative as already historic and said it had delivered new stability to the region.
Abraham Accords push and Trump’s new demand
Trump announced that he had ordered his team to widen the Abraham Accords to include more Muslim-majority nations. On Truth Social, Trump stated: "I am mandatorily requesting that all Countries immediately sign the Abraham Accords, and that, if Iran signs its Agreement with me, as President of the United States of America, it would be an Honor to have them also be part of this unparalleled World Coalition, " Trump added a second directive: "By copy of this TRUTH, I am asking my representatives to begin, and successfully complete, the process of signing these countries into the already historic Abraham Accords,"
An Axios report said the direct demand caught several leaders off guard, especially those without official ties to Israel. The outlet reported: "The leaders, especially those of Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Pakistan who don't have formal diplomatic relations with Israel, were surprised by Trump's request." The same report cited a United States official saying: "There was silence on the line and Trump joked and asked if they were still there."
Trump explained that the idea for a coordinated signature drive surfaced during a weekend round of calls with regional figures. Trump wrote: "During my discussions on Saturday… I stated that, after all the work done by the United States to try and pull this very complex puzzle together, it should be mandatory that all of these countries, at a minimum, simultaneously, sign onto the Abraham Accords… It may be possible that one or two have a reason for not doing so, and that will be accepted, but most should be ready, willing, and able to make this settlement with Iran a far more historic event than it would, otherwise, be,"
Alongside the request, Trump argued that the accords had already brought a new degree of order to West Asia. Trump suggested that an agreement with Tehran on nuclear or security issues could open the door for Iran’s inclusion in the same structure. Reflecting on that scenario, Trump wrote: "Wow, now that would be something special!"
Separate from Trump’s initiative, reports from March outlined efforts by Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Turkey and Egypt to build a new coordination platform. The proposed bloc would focus on defence industry projects and "broader defence matters". According to Middle East Eye, foreign ministers from the four countries met on the sidelines of an Islamic nations’ summit in Riyadh to discuss the idea.

Negotiations between the United States and Iran continue, with Trump insisting that a deal to end the war is close. Iranian officials have said gaps still exist on some clauses. Trump, however, is pressing ahead with attempts to link any agreement over Iran with wider regional normalisation through the Abraham Accords.
