Dubai has long been a global hub for job opportunities, attracting professionals from around the world. As per recent reports, the City of Gold has introduced major updates to its 2-year employment visa process, making it faster, more efficient, and digitally streamlined.

The latest changes, introduced by the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) and the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE), include AI-driven renewal systems, simplified entry procedures for Indian nationals, and enhanced digital processing.
Dubai's 2-Year Employment Visa System
The 2-year employment visa is a crucial requirement for expatriates working in Dubai and the UAE. This visa allows individuals to legally reside and work in the country under an employer's sponsorship. It also grants access to essential services such as banking, healthcare, and accommodation, and allows visa holders to sponsor their families. This visa is issued by the GDRFA and must be renewed upon expiry.
Updated Application Process For Dubai's 2-Year Employment Visa (2025)
Dubai has streamlined the employment visa application process to ensure a hassle-free experience. Here are the updated steps -
1. Secure a Job Offer - The first step is securing a confirmed job offer from a UAE-registered employer, who will act as the sponsor and handle the visa processing.
2. MOHRE Work Permit Approval - The employer must apply for a work permit approval from the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE).
3. Entry Permit Issuance - Upon approval, an Entry Permit is granted, allowing the applicant to enter Dubai and proceed with formalities. This permit remains valid for 60 days.
4. Medical Examination - After arrival, candidates must undergo a mandatory medical fitness test, including a blood test and chest X-ray.
5. Emirates ID Registration - The UAE Resident Identity Card (Emirates ID) application includes biometric verification and is required for all residents.
6. Visa Stamping & Residency Approval - Once all formalities are completed, the GDRFA stamps the employment visa on the applicant's passport, granting legal residency for two years.
Who Can Apply For Dubai's 2-Year Employment Visa?
To be eligible for a Dubai employment visa, applicants must meet the following criteria -
• A valid passport with at least six months' validity.
• A confirmed job offer from a UAE-based employer.
• Relevant educational and professional certificates (as per job requirements).
• A medical clearance certificate confirming fitness for employment.
• MOHRE work permit approval.
Key Updates In Dubai's 2-Year Employment Visa System
Dubai has introduced several improvements to its employment visa system, ensuring faster processing and greater accessibility -
• AI-Powered Visa Renewals (Salama System) - The UAE's new 'Salama' system automates visa renewal applications, significantly reducing processing times.
• Expanded Golden Visa Categories - Professionals in teaching, healthcare, sustainability, and digital content creation are now eligible for a 10-year Golden Visa.
• Faster Digital Processing - Most visa-related services are now available online, eliminating paperwork and reducing the need for in-person visits.
• Visa-on-Arrival Expansion for Indian Nationals - Indian passport holders who meet the eligibility criteria can now obtain a visa on arrival, simplifying entry procedures.
• More Inclusive Family Sponsorship Rules - Expatriates earning over AED 4,000 per month can now sponsor their spouses, children, and even parents, making family reunification easier.
With these changes, Dubai continues to strengthen its position as a leading international destination for professionals while embracing digital innovation for a more efficient visa system.
