Dry Days Alerts In Maharashtra, Delhi, Bengaluru: From Ram Navami, Ambedkar Jayanti To Good Friday; Check Date

Dry Days Alert: The state governments in India reserve the right to declare dry days in their respective regions. In general terms, dry day means that licenced alcohol shops will not be allowed to sell liquor during a specified day. Typically, dry days are announced during major events, national holidays, election periods, and special celebrations like festivals. That being said, three states have declared dry days from April 6th to April 14th due to Ram Navami, Mahavir Jayanti and Ambedkar Jayanti. These states are Maharashtra, Bengaluru, and Delhi.

Maharashtra:

Dry Days in Mumbai and other cities:

The largest economy of India was declared dry for four days in April 2025. The first dry day is on April 6th due to the celebration of Ram Navami, followed by dry days on April 10 due to Mahavir Jayanti, and April 14 due to Ambedkar Jayanti. The last dry day is announced on April 18 due to honouring of Good Friday.

Bengaluru Dry Days 2025:

Cities in Karnataka including its capital, Bengaluru will practice dry days on four days as well in April 2025.

- April 14th due to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Jayanti
- April 18th due to Good Friday
- April 30th due to Akshaya Tritiya.

Delhi Dry Days 2025:

However, unlike Maharashtra and Bengaluru, Delhi announced only three days as dry days in April 2025. First is April 6th due to Ram Navami, second is April 10th due to Mahavir Jayanti, and lastly April 18th due to Good Friday.

This year, Ram Navami falls on April 6th and will be celebrated all over the country. Ram Navami falls on the ninth day of Chaitra, however, its rituals and customs vary from state to state. Rama Navami means the birth anniversary of Rama, who is known to be the seventh avatar of Vishnu.

Mahavir Jayanti 2025:

Popularly known as Mahavir Jayanti, the festival will be celebrated on April 10th across the country. It is among the most important festivals in Jainism, celebrating the birth of Mahavira who is known to be the 24th and last Tīrthankara of Avasarpini.

Ambedkar Jayanti 2025: Also referred to as Bhim Jayanti, Ambedkar Jayanti is observed on April 14, in memory of Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar who fought to eradicate social evils and to bring equality. His birthdate, April 14, is also called as 'Equality Day'.

Ambedkar Jayanti is celebrated with grand processions and love in over 25 states and union territories of India, including Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Chandigarh, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Kerala, Ladakh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, Puducherry, Punjab, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal etc.

Good Friday 2025:

In 2025, Good Friday is going to be held on April 18th. Good Friday is a holy day for Christians worldwide, commemorating the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. It is also called Black Friday, Holy Friday, Great Friday, Great and Holy Friday, or Friday of the Passion of the Lord.

Akshaya Tritiya 2025:

This festival will fall on the last day of the month, meaning, April 30th this year.

Akshaya Tritiya, also known as Akti or Akha Teej, is an annual Jain and Hindu spring festival. It falls on the third tithi (lunar day) of the bright half (Shukla Paksha) of the Hindu month of Vaisakha. This day is auspicious for those who buy rice, deposit money in a bank account, buy any kind of new things or vessels - visit temples, donate foods or special offers for poor people, or help poor children with their education fees, all are good signs for Akshaya Tritiya, as per Wikipedia.
