The auspicious time (shubh muharat) for the Havan on the Navami of Navratri will be from 11:58 AM to 12:49 PM on 6th April 2025. The ninth day of Navratri marks the worship of goddess Siddhidatri, the ninth form of the goddess Durga.


When to Perform Navratri Havan?

On the last day (ninth day) of Chaitra Navratri, doing the havan is considered auspicious. Performing the havan on this day completes the Navratri of nine days with the worship of all nine forms of Goddess Durga. Many devotees perform the havan on Ashtami, while others do it on Navami. Therefore, if you are doing the havan on Ashtami, you can do it today, April 5, and if you are performing havan it on Navami, you can do it tomorrow, April 6 too.

Mythological Beliefs Behind Durga Ashtami Celebration:

According to Devi Bhagwat Purana, Goddess Sati in the form of Parvati did severe penance to get Lord Shiva as her husband. Once Lord Shiva said something to Parvati ji which hurt the Goddess Parvati ji got absorbed in penance. Thus, after doing severe penance for years, when Parvati did not come, Lord Shiva went searching for her. On reaching there, Lord Shiva was surprised to see mata Parvati. Parvati ji's complexion was very bright, her complexion was looking white like moonlight, pleased with her clothes and ornaments, Lord Shiva blessed Goddess with a fair complexion.

According to another story, the goddess performed severe penance to get Lord Shiva as her husband, due to which her body turned black. Pleased with the penance of the goddess, the Lord accepts her and Shiva washes her body with Gangajal, then the goddess becomes very fair and from then on she was named Gauri. In the form of Mahagauri, the goddess looks compassionate, loving, calm and soft. While praying to this form of the goddess, the gods and sages say, "Sarvamangal Mangalye Shivaye Sarvadhya Sadhike Sharanya Ambike Gauri Narayani Namostute.

The Navratri begins on the first day of Chaitra Shukla and ends on the day of Ram Navami. The last day of Chaitra Navratri, known as Navami Tithi, is also celebrated as Lord Shri Ram's birthday. This day is also referred to as Ram Navami. It is said that on this day, Lord Shri Ram was born to Mata Kaushalya at Ayodhya. This year, Ram Navami falls on April 6th, along with the ninth day of Navratri, Mahanavami Puja.
