In a bid to promote e-mobility, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has issued a notification dated 2nd August 2021 to exempt Battery Operated Vehicles from the payment of fees for the purpose of issue or renewal of registration certificate and assignment of new registration mark.

Noteably, such that more and more people adhere to voluntary vehicle-scrapping policy announced in the Budget 2021, the centre announced to increase the cost of renewal, registration, and fitness certificate of vehicles older than 15 years.
The Union Road and Transport Ministry has come up with Central Motor Vehicle (Amendment) Rules, 2021, as part of which it has proposed an increase in charges for renewal and issue of fitness certificate of vehicles older than 15 years. The proposed legislation will come into effect from October 1, 2021.
