Earth Day 2025: How Indian Companies Support Theme ‘Our Power, Our Planet’ with Net Zero Goals & Clean Energy

The world is celebrating the Earth Day 2025 on April 22 that marks the 55th anniversary of Earth Day on Tuesday. This year the theme of the earth day is "Our Planet, Our Power", calls upon individuals, governments, and businesses to accelerate the shift to renewable energy and safeguard the Earth's natural resources like air, water, soil, wildlife, and human health. Indian companies are increasingly aligning their operations with the goals of clean energy, community welfare, and climate responsibility.

With the Earth Day 2025 theme urging global citizens to triple the use of clean electricity by 2030, Indian corporate leaders are showing that the private sector can be a powerful ally in the fight against climate change.

Cairn Oil and Gas (part of Vedanta Limited)

One of India's largest oil and gas exploration companies, Cairn Oil and Gas, part of Vedanta Limited is working steadily towards becoming a Net Zero Carbon company by 2030. The company is focusing on renewable energy, efficient operations, and strong community partnerships to reach this ambitious target.

"Earth Day is a reminder that environmental protection starts at the grassroots. We are reimagining energy production to include environmental responsibility and inclusive development. Our shift to cleaner energy and adoption of low-carbon practices are already showing results," said a Cairn spokesperson.

Over the last four years, the company has reduced its gas flaring by 60% and saved over 200,000 gigajoules of energy. It currently sources 25 MW of renewable energy and aims to scale this up to 70 MW by 2030. A major step in this transition will come this year, as the company begins sourcing 18 MW of renewable power in Rajasthan, an initiative expected to reduce 124,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually.

In addition to reducing emissions, Cairn has planted 7.8 lakh trees and mangroves in the past two years. The company plans to plant 20 lakh trees by the end of the decade.

Blue Planet: Tackling Waste with Technology

While traditional energy companies are moving towards greener practices, waste management firm Blue Planet Environmental Solution is leading the charge in building a circular economy.

According to Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Blue Planet Prashant Singh, the company's goal is to eliminate landfill waste and decarbonise waste streams across Asia. "A sustainable 2030 for us means measurable decarbonisation, zero landfill waste, and building a truly circular economy at scale," Singh told GoodReturns.

By 2030, Blue Planet aims to impact over 100 million lives through its integrated, tech-based waste solutions. One of its most ambitious projects, the Decarbonisation-as-a-Service (DaaS) platform, will launch this year to help industries and municipalities track and reduce carbon emissions from waste in real time.

CEO Singh said, "This is not just about processing waste. It is about eliminating the emissions footprint of waste entirely.
