Eid ul Adha 2024 Date & Time In India: Will Banks Remain Closed?

Eid ul Adha, popularly known as Bakra Eid in many parts of India, holds great importance for Muslims all across the globe. Eid ul Adha celebrates readiness of Prophet Ibrahim to offer his son Ismael as a sacrifice in obedience to God. Muslim community regard it as one of the most holy festivals. On day 10 of Dhu Al-Hijjah, the month that comes to an end on the Islamic calendar, the 12th, Muslim community celebrate the festival Eid-ul-Adha or Bark Eid.

Eid ul Adha is celebrated as a public holiday. The exact date of the festival generally depends on sighting of crescent moon of Dhul Hijjah, 12th and final month of Islamic calendar. When it comes to India, Lucknow and Jammu & Kashmir based moon sighting committees reportedly declare the spotting of crescent moon on Friday evening. Based on these calculations, Monday June 17 will be observed as Eid ul Adha in India. Meanwhile, it is important to note that banks will remain closed on June 17, 2024.

Bank branches in India remain closed on every second, fourth Saturdays and all the Sundays. Banks also remain closed when there is a public holiday. There are some holidays that are observed nationally while some states observe specific occasions on the basis of local traditions that they follow.

Banks remain closed on national and religious holidays that may include Republic Day, Holi, Buddha Purnima, Independence Day, Gandhi Jayanti, Christmas Diwali, Dussehra, Eid, Ganesh Chaturthi.

History Of Eid ul Adha: The history of the popular festival goes back to Prophet Ibrahim. As per the Holy Quran, Prophet Ibrahim, in his dream, saw Allah asking him to sacrifice his son to prove his devotion and regard to his lord. Prophet Ibrahim decided to obey the instruction of Allah. And, the moment he was beginning to make the sacrifice, Allah intervened and recognized Prophet Ibrahim's full submission. Instead of his son, a lamb was given for sacrifice. Globally, Muslims offer an animal in the form of sacrifice on this day to show their devotion to Allah.
