Eighteen Construction Material Samples Fail Quality Tests in Haryana Irrigation Department Projects

Haryana's Irrigation Department is facing scrutiny after 18 out of 48 construction material samples failed quality checks. This has led to 80 officials being charge-sheeted, according to Haryana Irrigation and Water Resources Minister Shruti Choudhry. She stressed that maintaining high standards for construction materials is non-negotiable.

Eighteen Samples Fail Quality Tests in Haryana

Choudhry highlighted the government's firm stance against corruption, stating that no compromises will be made. "There will be no compromise on the quality of construction materials," she said. The minister revealed that the vigilance wing conducted raids and collected samples following numerous complaints.

Quality Assurance and Accountability

The officials facing charges range from Junior Engineers to Chief Engineers. They have been charged under Sections 7 and 8 of the Haryana Civil Services Rules. Choudhry noted that as projects near completion, the responsibility of officials increases significantly.

Some projects are close to finishing, which raises the stakes for those involved. The minister mentioned that a substantial amount had already been paid to contractors. She added that efforts would be made to recover funds from these contractors if necessary.

Kishau Dam Project's Significance

Discussing the Kishau Dam project, Choudhry described it as a crucial national-level initiative for Haryana. The dam will provide water for both irrigation and drinking purposes. "The state will get 709 cusecs of water from the Yamuna river through the Kishau Dam," she stated.

The Kishau Dam project is expected to significantly benefit Haryana by enhancing its water supply. This project underscores the importance of ensuring quality in construction materials used in such significant infrastructure developments.

The minister's statements reflect a commitment to transparency and accountability within the department. By addressing these issues head-on, the government aims to uphold integrity and trust in public projects.
