EndureAir and Defence PSUs Establish Advanced Testing Facilities for UAVs
EndureAir, a UAV manufacturer, announced on Wednesday its collaboration with five defence PSUs to establish advanced testing facilities under the Ministry of Defence's DIT Scheme. The initiative aims to drive technological advancements and provide essential infrastructure for testing and refining niche defence technologies, particularly unmanned aerial systems.

Collaboration for Technological Advancements
The Ministry of Defence has signed an MoU to set up these testing facilities within the Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor (UPDIC). This collaboration includes private industry and central or state government entities, promoting indigenous defence production and reducing military equipment imports. The scheme was launched by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in May 2020 with an outlay of Rs 400 crore.
One of the facilities will focus on Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) and will be located in Technopark IIT Kanpur. This marks a significant milestone in the drone industry and the advancement of indigenous defence technologies in India. EndureAir highlighted that it is the only private firm involved alongside five Defence PSUs: Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd, Bharat Electronics Ltd, Gliders India Ltd, Yantra India Ltd, and BEML.
Enhancing Self-Reliance
The MoU represents a crucial step towards enhancing self-reliance and reducing dependency on imports within the defence sector. It aims to facilitate the certification of UAS and subsystems to meet international standards. For EndureAir and the broader drone industry, this development offers a significant opportunity to leverage advanced testing infrastructure to drive innovation.
EndureAir stated that this collaboration would enhance the global competitiveness of Indian-made UAVs. The DTI Scheme's objective is to set up testing facilities in collaboration with private industry and government entities, thereby promoting indigenous defence production.
The establishment of these facilities within UPDIC is expected to provide essential infrastructure for testing niche defence technologies. This initiative will particularly benefit unmanned aerial systems, driving technological advancements in this field.
