J P Nadda Directs Officials to Ensure Adequate Crop Nutrients Supply for Farmers During Kharif Season

Union Chemicals and Fertilisers Minister J P Nadda has instructed officials to ensure a sufficient supply of crop nutrients to states for the kharif season. He emphasised the need for strict measures against hoarding, black marketing, and the diversion of fertilisers for industrial purposes. This directive came during a high-level meeting with officials from the Department of Fertilisers.

Nadda Ensures Crop Nutrients for Kharif Season

Nadda highlighted agriculture's crucial role in national food security and stressed the importance of timely nutrient availability to boost crop productivity. The minister was updated on fertiliser supplies and preparations for kharif 2025. Domestic fertiliser production is at an optimal level, with DAP production reaching 3.84 lakh tonnes, marking a recent high.

Ensuring Fertiliser Availability

The Union minister directed officials to ensure prompt fertiliser availability across all states to meet farmers' needs. He stressed the importance of coordination with stakeholders, including state governments, fertiliser companies, railways, and port authorities. This collaboration aims to facilitate smooth distribution and prevent any shortages during the critical growing season.

To address the gap between demand and domestic supply, Indian fertiliser companies have established partnerships with major exporters like Saudi Arabia, Morocco, and Russia. These agreements ensure a steady flow of imports throughout the year, helping maintain adequate supplies for farmers.

Addressing Malpractices in Fertiliser Distribution

Nadda expressed concern over the increasing dependence on chemical fertilisers, particularly urea. He advocated for promoting sustainable agricultural practices to reduce this reliance. Additionally, he called for coordinated efforts with state governments to tackle illegal diversion, hoarding, and black marketing of fertilisers.

The minister urged stringent actions to prevent these malpractices and ensure that fertilisers reach their intended recipients. This approach aims to protect farmers' interests and maintain fair distribution across regions.

Key Officials Attend Meeting

The meeting was attended by Rajat Kumar Mishra, Secretary of the Department of Fertilisers, along with other senior officials such as Anita Meshram, Additional Secretary; Aparna S Sharma, Additional Secretary; and Abhay Sharma, Director of Fertiliser Movement. Their presence underscored the importance of addressing these issues collaboratively.

Nadda's directives aim to enhance agricultural productivity by ensuring timely access to essential nutrients while curbing malpractices in distribution. This comprehensive approach seeks to support farmers during the kharif season and beyond.
