On Friday, the retirement fund body EPFO rolled out a facility using which subscribers under the scheme who are employed in the formal sector can directly get their UAN or universal account number from the EPFO portal without the need to apply for it through their respective employer.
UAN continues to be the same through the life of the working individual. And with it, EPF members can now get away with the need of filing EPF transfer claims upon changing jobs.
So, with the introduction of the new facility, workers will no longer be dependent on their employers for generation of EPF UAN.
Also, the EPFO unveiled a facility for its pensioners using which pension-related documents such as pension payment order or PPO can be downloaded on DigiLocker. The integration of EPFO with NeGD's (National e-Governance Division) DigiLocker has resulted in the establishment of e-PPOs or electronic PPOs depository that is available for access by individual pensioners. This way the retirement fund body aims to go paperless in its processes.
These two facilities were launched by Labour Minister Santosh Gangwar on the occasion of celebration of the EPFO's 67th foundation day in New Delhi.
Simultaneously, the minister also rolled out e-Inspection, a digital interface between EPFO and employers. The E-Inspection Form would be available in user login of employers not filing ECR which enables employer to inform either closure of business or unpaid dues with proposal for payment. It will nudge employers for compliant behavior and prevent undue harassment of non-willful defaulters.
