Farmers from multiple Panchayats impacted by the Luhri and Sunni power projects of SJVN Ltd have urged the state government to provide employment for those who lost their land. A delegation led by CPIM leader and former MLA Rakesh Singha met Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Friday to discuss their demands, including compensation for farmers and jobs for those affected by the hydro projects.

The Chief Minister assured the delegation of his full support and promised that their demands would be considered sympathetically. He stated that the previous BJP Government had neglected the interests of the state's people, but the current administration would ensure that the state's rights are restored.
Compensation and Employment Demands
During the meeting, Singha highlighted several issues, including compensation for farmers and employment opportunities for those who lost their land due to the hydro projects. The Chief Minister acknowledged these concerns and assured that measures would be taken to address them.
Referring to specific projects, such as the 210 MW Luhri Hydro Project stage-I, 66 MW Dhaulasidh Power Project, and 382 MW Sunni Power Project, he mentioned that jobs and Local Area Development Authority (LADA) funds were not provided to the affected people. Additionally, the impact on animal husbandry was overlooked.
Government's Stance on Royalty
The Chief Minister also discussed the state's stance on royalty percentages with SJVNL. He stated that if SJVNL did not agree to the proposed royalty rates—12 percent for the first 12 years, 18 percent for 12-30 years, and 30 percent for 30-40 years—the state would consider acquiring these projects after 40 years.
The delegation's visit aimed to bring attention to the grievances of those affected by these hydro projects. The Chief Minister's assurance of support provided some relief to the delegation, who hope for a positive outcome from these discussions.
The state government is committed to addressing these issues and ensuring that those affected by the power projects receive fair compensation and employment opportunities. The Chief Minister's promise to consider their demands sympathetically indicates a proactive approach towards resolving these concerns.
