FASTag Annual Pass Fees: Meet First Barrier-Free Toll Plaza On NH 48 Highway; No More Toll Queues Ahead?

In a major move, the government has launched India's first barrier-free tolling system at the Chorayasi Toll Plaza on the Surat-Bharuch section of NH-48 in Gujarat. This is a huge step, where commuters will not be required to queue up for paying tolls, as the process will be digitalized and reduce traffic congestions.

On May 1st, the Union Minister of Road Transport & Highways Nitin Gadkari announced the launch of India's first Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) barrier-less tolling system at the Chorayasi Toll Plaza on the Surat-Bharuch section of NH-48 in Gujarat.

This is the state-of-the-art system enables seamless toll collection without requiring vehicles to stop, using advanced technologies such as Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) and FASTag.

"The introduction of MLFF marks a major milestone in the digitisation of India's tolling ecosystem and the modernisation of National Highway infrastructure in line with global standards. The system is expected to significantly reduce travel time, decongest highways, improve fuel efficiency, lower vehicular emissions, and minimise human intervention in toll operation," the ministry said.

Furthermore, Gadkari added, barrier-less tolling will enhance 'Ease of Living' for citizens and promote 'Ease of Doing Business' by enabling faster, more efficient movement of goods and logistics across the country.

He further emphasised that, under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister, Narendra Modi Ji, this initiative reflects the Government's continued commitment to building world-class, technology-driven National Highway infrastructure that is efficient, transparent, and commuter-friendly.

FASTag Annual Pass Fees:

For the financial year 2026-27, the National Highways Authority of India revised the annual pass fees for FASTag to Rs 3,075 from earlier Rs 3,000. The new rates have come into effect from April 1, 2026, onward.

Notably, the revised rate is applicable for eligible non-commercial vehicles with a valid FASTag seeking to avail the Annual Pass facility at about 1,150 fee plazas on National Highways and National Expressways.

The FASTag Annual Pass eliminates the need to frequently recharge FASTag through a one-time fee payment for one-year validity or 200 toll plaza crossings. The pass is applicable for all non-commercial vehicles with a valid FASTag.

The annual pass gets activated within two hours on the existing FASTag linked to the vehicle after payment of the one-time fee through the Rajmarg Yatra App or the National Highways Authority of India website.
