NHAIs decision to deactivate FASTags with incomplete KYC aims to improve the efficiency of electronic toll collection and enforce the One Vehicle, One FASTag policy. FASTag users are urged to complete their KYC process and comply with the guidelines to avoid inconvenience.
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) announced on Monday that FASTags with valid balances but incomplete Know Your Customer (KYC) details will be deactivated by banks after January 31, 2024. This move aims to enhance the efficiency of the electronic toll collection system and ensure seamless movement at toll plazas.

One Vehicle, One FASTag Initiative
NHAI has launched the "One Vehicle, One FASTag" initiative to discourage the use of a single FASTag for multiple vehicles or linking multiple FASTags to a particular vehicle. This initiative aims to streamline toll operations and prevent misuse of FASTags.
KYC Completion and Compliance
FASTag users are urged to complete the KYC process of their latest FASTag as per the guidelines issued by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). Additionally, users must comply with the "One Vehicle, One FASTag" initiative and discard all previously issued FASTags through their respective banks. Only the latest FASTag account will remain active, while previous tags will be deactivated or blacklisted after January 31, 2024.
Addressing Irregularities
NHAI's decision to deactivate FASTags with incomplete KYC and enforce the "One Vehicle, One FASTag" initiative comes in response to reports of multiple FASTags being issued for a single vehicle and FASTags being issued without proper KYC, which violates RBI's mandate. Additionally, some FASTags are deliberately not fixed on the vehicle's windscreen, causing unnecessary delays at toll plazas and inconveniencing other highway users.
Revolutionizing Toll Collection
FASTag, with its impressive penetration rate of around 98% and over 8 crore users, has revolutionized the electronic toll collection system in India. The "One Vehicle, One FASTag" initiative will further enhance toll operations, ensuring more efficient and seamless journeys for highway users.
NHAI's efforts to deactivate FASTags with incomplete KYC and promote the "One Vehicle, One FASTag" initiative are crucial steps towards improving the electronic toll collection system in India. By ensuring proper KYC compliance and discouraging the misuse of FASTags, NHAI aims to provide a smoother and more convenient toll payment experience for highway users.
