Finance Commission Team Led by Arvind Panagariya Arrives in Kerala for Three-Day Visit

The 16th Finance Commission, led by Arvind Panagariya, former vice chairman of NITI Aayog, began a three-day visit to Kerala on Sunday. They were welcomed at the international airport by state Finance Minister K N Balagopal. The minister mentioned that a comprehensive memorandum has been prepared for submission to the Commission.

Finance Commission Team Visits Kerala

Kerala aims to highlight its unique financial challenges in the presentation to the Commission. The state plans to propose solutions for the imbalance in tax distribution and seek timely grants. The Finance Minister expressed optimism about receiving favourable consideration in the upcoming report.

Finance Commission's Itinerary

After their arrival, the team travelled to Kumarakom in Kottayam district, according to an official statement. On Monday, they are scheduled to visit Thiruvarpu and Aymanam panchayat areas in Kottayam. By evening, they will reach Kovalam for further engagements.

On Tuesday morning at 9:30 am, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will officially welcome the Commission's chairman and members at the Leela Hotel in Kovalam. Finance Minister Balagopal will deliver a welcome address during this meeting. Discussions with cabinet members will follow.

The Finance Commission plays a crucial role in determining the financial support states receive from the Central government every five years. Kerala is keen on ensuring its concerns are addressed effectively during this visit.
