Food Delivery Giant Swiggy Launches New Event Ticketing Feature 'Scenes'; Share Price To Be In Focus

The competition between India's food delivery titans, Swiggy and Zomato, has escalated. Weeks after Zomato introduced 'District,' a standalone app dedicated to experiences and event ticketing, Swiggy has responded with 'Scenes,' an event discovery and ticketing feature integrated into its superapp.

Swiggy's Scenes
Swiggy's Scenes enables users to explore and book events such as New Year's Eve parties, live music shows, DJ nights, and other experiences hosted by partner restaurants. Unlike Zomato's District, which operates as a standalone app offering broader services like movie ticket bookings, Scenes is integrated into Swiggy's ecosystem, focusing solely on live events.

This integration is part of Swiggy's strategy to deepen user engagement within its app, offering a unified platform for diverse services. For now, Scenes is exclusively available in Bengaluru, with expansion plans and the inclusion of additional experiences yet to be revealed.

Swiggy's diversification moves, including the launch of Scenes, align with its broader strategy to explore new revenue streams while enhancing user retention. The company has reported growth in its user base, with Monthly Transacting Users (MTU) reaching 17.1 million in Q2FY25, reflecting a 7% quarter-on-quarter increase and a 19% year-on-year growth.

Another addition to Swiggy's offerings is the launch of One BLCK, an invite-only premium membership designed to attract high-value users. This exclusive service provides concierge-style experiences, an area where Zomato currently lacks a comparable offering.

What Does One BLCK Offer?
Swiggy's One BLCK membership is aimed at users seeking premium services and includes:
Faster food deliveries with an on-time guarantee.
Exclusive dining perks such as complimentary cocktails, drinks, or desserts at partner restaurants.
Priority customer support, ensuring personalised assistance from Swiggy's top-tier agents.

The Expanding Turf War
The rivalry between the Gurugram-based Zomato and Bengaluru-headquartered Swiggy is no longer limited to food delivery and quick commerce. Both companies are aggressively venturing into dining out experiences, memberships, and event ticketing.

Zomato's 'District' launched earlier, provides a wider scope of services, including movie ticket bookings. However, Swiggy's Scenes leverages its superapp strategy, offering a more integrated experience without requiring users to switch between apps.

Market Performance
On Friday, Swiggy's stock closed with gains of nearly 6%, at Rs 533 per share on the National Stock Exchange (NSE). Since its listing, the company has delivered returns of approximately 17%.

While Scenes is still in its nascent stages, user response in Bengaluru will likely determine its future rollout across other cities. Similarly, Swiggy's success in capturing the premium user segment with One BLCK could set a benchmark for innovation in India's food delivery market.
