Amid rising tensions between India and Pakistan, foreign airlines are steering clear of Pakistani airspace. This follows India's decision to close its airspace to Pakistani airlines from April 30, while Pakistan has reciprocated by barring Indian carriers. These actions come in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, which resulted in at least 26 casualties.

Airlines Adjust Routes Amid Tensions
Lufthansa Group, a major German airline, announced it is closely monitoring the situation. The airline stated that due to current circumstances, its flights will avoid Pakistani airspace until further notice. This decision will lead to longer flight durations on some routes to Asia, including those to India. Lufthansa expressed regret for any inconvenience caused by these delays and advised passengers to check their flight status online before departure. The airline operates 64 weekly flights to five Indian cities.
British carrier Virgin Atlantic also decided to bypass Pakistani airspace following regional escalations. This has led to some planned rerouting of its London to Delhi flights. Virgin Atlantic emphasized that it will continue evaluating the situation and update passengers on any necessary operational changes. The airline connects Indian cities with 35 weekly flights.
Safety and Security Remain Top Priorities
British Airways highlighted that safety and security are their utmost priorities. The airline continuously assesses and adjusts operations accordingly. British Airways maintains 56 weekly flights to India, ensuring passenger safety remains paramount amid these geopolitical tensions.
In response to the Pahalgam terror attack, Indian armed forces launched Operation Sindoor. Early Wednesday, they conducted missile strikes targeting nine terror sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir. This military action underscores the heightened tensions between the two nations.
The ongoing situation has prompted airlines worldwide to adapt their operations for safety reasons. As developments unfold, airlines are committed to keeping passengers informed about any changes affecting their travel plans.
