Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport's Terminal 1 (T1) is now functional and has temporarily replaced the T2 terminal. Reopening of the extensively renovated Delhi's IGI T1 terminal has garnered significant attention because of its high tech facilities and ultra modern features.
Delhi's IGI's T1 terminal also enjoys a massive 40 million passenger capacity and will also provide access to luxurious restaurants, and other dine-in outlets. With facilities like queue buster check-ins and self-baggage counters, the terminal will upgrade passengers experience significantly.

The waste water generated is recycled and used for horticulture purpose and washroom facilities, according to Delhi's IGI Terminal 1 flipbook. The building has also opted for other sustainable practices like solar panel installation and daylight utilisation to achieve net-zero emission targets.

The terminal 1 building expands to an area of 206950 square kilometres of area with high ceilings, diverse food and shopping options, and better connectivity via cabs, shuttles and metros. The terminal is also connected with the largest number of aerobridges.

Delhi IGI T1 Terminal: Passengers Face Delays on Day 1
On the first day of Delhi Airport's Terminal 1 becoming fully operational, several passengers faced inconveniences due to frequent delays and other passenger inconveniences due to intermittent issue with the baggage check-in system at T1.
T1 has become functional to provide an alternative for T2, which is now shut temporarily for maintenance work. So far, IndiGo and Akasa Air have shifted their flights from T2 to T1.
"We are currently experiencing intermittent baggage check-in system issues at Terminal 1. This has already been escalated to the global OEM for urgent resolution. We apologise for any inconvenience caused to our passengers. We are working with all stakeholders to resolve the issue on priority," Delhi airport operator DIAL said in a post on X at 1742 hours.
The expansion and modernisation of T1 were completed as part of the Phase 3A expansion project of the airport. While T1 was handling flights earlier also, the expanded T1 became fully operational from Tuesday. The expanded T1 can accommodate 40 million passengers, and T3 can handle 45 million passengers annually. T2 had an annual capacity to handle 15 million passengers, DIAL said last month.
