US-Iran agreement claim shapes Trump arrival at G7 summit in the French Alps

President Donald Trump arrived in the French Alps for the Group of Seven summit after saying a US-Iran agreement would end the conflict. The claim follows days of mixed signals and fresh Israel-Hezbollah violence in Lebanon. With global energy prices rising and polls showing voter concern, G7 talks are expected to focus on security and energy risks.

President Donald Trump arrived in Evian-les-Bains in the French Alps on Monday for the Group of Seven summit. The trip followed an agreement Trump said would end the US war with Iran. The 15-week conflict has lifted global energy prices and raised political pressure in the United States. G7 leaders were expected to question Trump’s handling of the crisis.

US-Iran deal claim at G7

Trump and Iranian officials had signalled progress for days, but talks looked uncertain on Sunday. A fresh exchange of strikes involved Israel and Iran-backed Hezbollah militants in Lebanon. Even so, Trump announced the agreement before meeting fellow leaders. Polls show many American voters disapprove of the conflict. Some Republicans also worry about November’s midterm election impact.

Donald Trump agreement with Iran and Strait of Hormuz blockade

Trump celebrated the deal with a social media post. "Ships of the World, start your engines,\" Trump wrote. \"Let the oil flow!\" Trump said the agreement would end the US blockade of the Strait of Hormuz. About 20 per cent of the world’s crude moved through it before the war.

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi offered a different timeline. Gharibabadi said the Iranian closure of the strait would continue until the agreement is signed. Neither the White House nor Iran released the final text. Both sides also gave few details about what the agreement contains.

Vice President JD Vance told CNBC on Monday that the White House hopes to publish the text soon. Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan mediated the negotiations. Sharif said pre-implementation discussions would happen this week. Those talks would set up 60 days of technical discussions on Iran’s nuclear programme.

Donald Trump G7 summit talks and Strait of Hormuz demining

The White House said Trump is expected to raise demining in the Strait of Hormuz. Tanker traffic has stopped during the war due to mine fears. Restoring ship confidence depends on clearing hazards quickly. Britain and France have shown interest in helping once the conflict is paused.

French President Emmanuel Macron said France was ready to move very quickly to deploy assets. Macron said mine-clearing vessels could be sent to the region. Macron added that a French aircraft carrier and an accompanying strike group are already in the region. Macron said they would be ready within days after signing.

Macron, the summit host, invited Egypt, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates to attend Tuesday talks. The session will focus on the Middle East, with Iran expected to dominate. The leaders of the UK, France, Germany, Italy and Canada issued a joint statement. They called the agreement a chance to restore regional stability and stabilise the global economy.

Donald Trump Emmanuel Macron friction and French wine tariffs

The agreement could reshape Trump’s talks with European leaders. Trump has clashed with Macron, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Germany’s Friedrich Merz, and Italy’s Giorgia Meloni. They criticised Trump for not consulting them before going to war. Trump also criticised the four NATO leaders for limited US support.

Before leaving for the summit, Trump told the New York Post about a trade warning to France. Trump said the US would impose 100 per cent tariffs on French wines unless Paris removes its digital tax. EU wines and spirits now face a 15 per cent US tariff. In a TF1 interview, Macron said US officials cannot decide European law.

Trump is scheduled to meet Macron later Monday. After their meeting, both leaders will join others for a working dinner. The meeting comes while the Middle East remains central to the agenda. It also comes amid debate over trade, tech taxes, and allied coordination during the war.

Donald Trump Iran nuclear deal questions and verification concerns

Trump has long attacked the 2015 nuclear agreement signed under President Barack Obama. Trump withdrew from that pact in 2018. The deal was called the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action. Britain, China, France, Germany, Russia and the European Union also signed it.

In an interview on Sunday with The New York Times, Trump rejected comparisons with the Obama deal. \"We negotiated from strength,\" Trump said. \"He was basically paying them off.\" Trump has not explained how the new agreement addresses verification issues. Key questions include who checks Iran’s compliance.

Another issue involves 972 pounds 441 kilograms of highly enriched uranium. It is believed to be buried under nuclear sites damaged by US strikes last summer. It remains unclear who would destroy or remove the material. Senior administration officials said the deal is expected to offer some sanctions relief. They also said it may include economic incentives if Iran meets benchmarks.

Democrats and hawkish critics questioned how the new financial relief differs from Obama-era measures. \"For all his critique of JCPOA, we had international observers, we actually had an alliance there that included the Europeans, and Russia and China were all signatories,\" Sen. Mark Warner told CBS Face the Nation on Sunday. \"Now it is America going alone or going with Israel only, and that does not make us safer.\"

Republican Sen Lindsey Graham also expressed doubt about the agreement. Graham said Congress must review and vote on any nuclear deal with Iran. Graham said JD Vance, described as the deal’s architect, should present it. \"I am somewhat concerned that Irans view of the agreement seems different than what the American negotiating team is claiming,\" Graham said on social media.

As G7 meetings began, leaders weighed the agreement’s impact on shipping and energy flows. The Strait of Hormuz remained a key concern until signing and demining. Trump also faced scrutiny over verification, uranium handling, and incentives for Tehran. The summit schedule included talks with Macron and a wider Middle East session on Tuesday.
