Gas Cylinder Booking Rules Of 25-Days & 45-Days: When To Refill LPG Of 14.2 Kg, 19Kg, 10Kg & 5Kg Cylinders?

There has been a great sense of confusion over how many days to wait before booking for a refill of LPG cylinders. Globally, the gasoline and LNG market has taken a massive hit due to the US-Israel operation fury on Iran. As the war entered its fifth week, the uncertainty around the Middle East conflict continues to push an oil and gas crunch in the global market, including India. Following this, the Indian government has taken various measures to meet the demands of cooking gas.

The allocation of LPG cylinders to Indian households is among the top priority of the government since the US-Israel and Iran war broke out. It is estimated that around 80,000 tonnes of gas cylinders are consumed in India on a daily basis. Of this, 85% of the consumers are households. At present, India has over 33 crore domestic LPG connections.

LPG Shortage In India:

According to the latest update by the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas on March 30th, LPG supply continues to be affected due to the prevailing geopolitical situation. However, the report added that no dry-outs have been reported at LPG distributorships.

Due to the supply crunch, online booking of LPGs have increased to 95% on industry basis. Delivery Authentication Code (DAC) based deliveries have increased from 53% in February 2026 to 82%, helping prevent diversion.

The government data added, partial commercial LPG supply (20%) had already been restored earlier. Additional allocations have been made, taking total commercial LPG allocation to 50 % and subsequently to 70% of pre-crisis levels, including reform-based allocations.

Furthermore, it said, "The government continues to prioritize domestic LPG and PNG supply, with special focus on households, hospitals and educational institutions even during the ongoing crisis."

Among many measures, the government has revised the rules of booking gas cylinders by extending the lock-in periods for refill. As of recently, there were fake claims that the government has further extended the rule to book LPGs after 35-days lock-in period, which was debunked by the ministry. However, it needs to be noted that there are different lock-in period to book different types of LPG cylinders.

LPG Cylinder Booking Rule Of 35-Days; Fake Or Real?

On March 25, the ministry announced that certain news reports and social media posts are claiming revised LPG refill booking timelines-45 days for PMUY connections, 25 days for non-PMUY single bottle connections, and 35 days for non-PMUY double bottle connections.

"It is clarified that no such changes have been made," the ministry added," Citizens are advised not to believe or circulate such misinformation and to avoid unnecessary or panic booking of LPG refills."

Hence, the 35-days rule is a fake claim and hence consumers should be aware of this.

LPG Gas Cylinder Booking Rule Of 45-Days & 25 Days:

The government clarified that there are only two lock-in periods for booking LPGs. And these are 45 days and 25 days, irrespective of LPG connection. So it means, even if you have a 14.2 kg cylinder connection or 5 kg cylinder connection, the lock-in period remains 25 days in urban areas and 45 days for rural consumers.

These lock-in period is the time gap between your first purchase of LPG to second refill. The government emphasized last week that, "adequate LPG stocks are available in the country, and there is no cause for concern."

Types Of LPG Gas Cylinders:
