Gas Cylinder Price Changes From September 1: Will 14.2Kg & 19 Kg LPG Prices Rise Or Fall Next Month?

LPG gas cylinder prices are back in the picture with the month of September starting this week. Every month, oil marketing companies (OMCs) revise the prices of either 14.2 Kg domestic LPG cylinders or 19 Kg commercial LPG cylinders. The chances of hiking or trimming even 5 Kg and 10 Kg gas cylinders emerge depending upon market conditions.

In the latest development, US military targeted Iranian rocket launchers preparing to deploy mines into the Strait of Hormuz, marking the first such attack in more than a month. US forces also said they are closely monitoring the waterway and remain prepared to safeguard the free flow of commerce. The US last launched missiles at Iranian targets in late July but has since shifted its focus toward squeezing the country's economy through sanctions to push Tehran back to the negotiating table, as per Trading Economics data.

Further, Trading Economics data reveals that Iranian official said Friday that resuming diplomacy with the US "isn't impossible" following constructive discussions with Qatar, a mediator in the conflict. Meanwhile, reports indicated that around 6 to 8 million barrels of crude are still flowing through Hormuz each day despite the absence of a peace agreement between Washington and Tehran.

Experts believe that the situation at Strait of Hormuz could push oil prices to worrisome levels and that could push oil companies to hike prices of petroleum products, including LPG cylinders.

Will LPG Prices In India Rise Or Fall In September 2026?

So far, OMCs have trimmed LPG prices of 19 Kg commercial cylinders for two consecutive months, while the prices of 14.2 Kg domestic LPGs have remained unchanged after the hike in June 2026.

Crude oil prices are elevated. US WTI crude is currently above $85 per barrel and Brent crude is over $90 per barrel.

"We note that another few weeks of negligible oil supply through the SOH will likely push up oil prices to worrisome levels. Oil prices have moved up sharply in the past few days on concerns about (1) low crude oil and gas supply through the SOH for a longer-than-expected period; and (2) declining global oil inventories," said Sanjeev Prasad, MD & Co-Head at Kotak Institutional Equities.

Oil inventories have already declined meaningfully from the start of the war with major economies using ample pre-war inventories to manage 'supply'. Prasad added, "Oil prices have a large bearing on India's macro given the non-linear impact of oil prices on the major macroeconomic parameters."

If the crunch in oil inventories intensify, a hike in LPG prices becomes inevitable. Nonetheless, it will be keenly watched whether OMCs hike LPG prices for September or trim it for third consecutive month. The odds of keeping LPG prices unchanged cannot be ruled out as well.

At present, the domestic 14.2Kg cylinder prices were unchanged at Rs 942 per cylinder in Delhi, at Rs 941.50 in Mumbai, at Rs 968 in Kolkata and at Rs 957.50 per cylinder in Chennai.

Meanwhile, the prices of 19 Kg LPG cylinders were lowered for the second consecutive month in August 2026. For August, 19 Kg LPG price dropped by Rs 192 in Delhi to Rs 2,738, while plunged by Rs 209 in Kolkata to Rs 2,872.50. In Mumbai, 19 Kg LPG price declined by Rs 194 to Rs 2,691.50 and in Chennai, the rate dipped by Rs 200 to Rs 2,906 per cylinder.
