Gas Cylinder Prices Hike In June? Will Fuel & CNG Price Hikes Trigger Indane Gas, BharatGas, HP Gas LPG Prices

The current week witnessed a major alteration for a commoner in India, as fuel prices and CNG prices were hiked sharply, which will directly hit their pocket. Indian oil marketing companies (OMCs) hiked petrol and diesel prices by up to Rs 3 per litre, while natural gas producers announced up to Rs 2 per Kg hike on CNG rates across Mumbai, Delhi and other cities. This has further sparked the chances of yet another increase in LPG cylinder prices, which has already witnessed four consecutive hikes since the US-Israel-Iran war.

Petrol and Diesel Prices Hiked in May 2026:

Petrol prices in the majority of cities have reached above the Rs 100 mark and in some it is a staggering Rs 110 per litre. Diesel has also become expensive, nearing Rs 100 per litre in many cities.

CNG Prices Hiked in May 2026:

The price of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) is hiked by Rs 2 per kg in metro cities like Delhi and Mumbai.

In Delhi, the CNG rate is now Rs 79.09 per kg, up from the earlier Rs 77.09 per kg. Further, in Mumbai, CNG is available at Rs 84 per Kg, higher by Rs 2 from the earlier Rs 82 per kg.

Why Petroleum Products Price Is Hiked?

One of the major reasons for hiking fuel and CNG rates is the continuation of the West Asia war, which has pushed crude oil prices higher, triggered a global energy crisis and further intensified inflationary pressure.

Efforts for a peace deal between the US and Iran have stalled while the Strait of Hormuz remains closed, exacerbating the energy market crisis that is fatal for global economies. Both the US and Iran have continued a dual blockade, impacting the pivotal trade route of Hormuz.

Amidst fuel prices and CNG rate hikes, now the question is whether LPG prices could witness another hike. It needs to be noted that LPG prices in India have been increased for four times in a row since March 1, 2026.

However, the possibility is high because Middle East conflict could continue to keep crude oil prices elevated. Currently, US WTI Crude Oil is above the $105 per barrel market and Brent Crude surged near the $110 mark.

As per Rajani Sinha, Chief Economist, CareEdge Ratings, even if the West Asia conflict sees an early resolution, we expect global crude oil prices to average around USD 90/bbl in FY27 under our base-case scenario, with risks tilted further upward if geopolitical tensions persist for longer. So far, OMCs and the government have absorbed much of the rise in crude prices, but a prolonged period of elevated oil prices may lead to some pass-through to consumers.

LPG Gas Cylinder Prices Hike In June 2026?

For May 2026, OMCs hiked 19Kg LPG prices at the highest rate ever. The biggest hike is in Kolkata by Rs 1,147, effective from May 1, bringing the price to Rs 3,355 per cylinder. While in Chennai, 19Kg LPG price is hiked by Rs 1,013 to Rs 3,259.5. In Mumbai, the hike is by Rs 1,015.5 to Rs 3,046.5. Meanwhile, in Delhi, this LPG is priced at Rs 3,071.5 per cylinder, higher by Rs 993 from April 2026.

This will be the fourth consecutive hike since March 1, 2026, in 19Kg LPG prices across metro cities. In April 2026, the Indian Oil had increased LPG prices by Rs 218 to Rs 195.5, which came after Rs 114.5 hike on March 7, 2026, due to intensifying geopolitical crisis in Middle East. On March 1, 2026, the hike ranged from Rs 28 to Rs 31.

On the other hand, OMCs have increased domestic LPG prices only once in the West War, which was by Rs 60 per 14.2 cylinder on March 7. Thereby, currently, 14.2kg LPG price continues to be at Rs 913 per cylinder in Delhi, at Rs 939 in Kolkata, at Rs 912.5 in Mumbai and Rs 928.5 in Chennai.

There are three popularly used LPG cylinder sizes: 5 kg, 14.2 kg, and 19 kg. Currently, a 5 Kg gas cylinder is widely used by migrants, students and citizens who are renting but lack permanent residence.

Then come 14.2 Kg LPG cylinders, which are largely meant for domestic use and comprise almost 90% of all gas distributed, as per the Indian Oil website. Indian households use this cylinder type.

Meanwhile, 19 Kg LPG cylinders are meant for industrial and commercial consumption. Also, 47.5 kg and 425 kg Jumbo cylinders are used by industries for commercial purposes.

There are three LPG brands in India: Indane Gas, Bharat Gas and HP Gas. OMCs revise gas cylinder prices in the start of every month.
