Gold Hallmarking Implementation May See A Further Extension In Timeline
In order to avoid any kind of fraudulent act on customers while purchasing gold jewelley, gold hallmarking has been made compulsory. Considering the current ruling, the new rules with regard to hallmarking will come into effect from June 16.
So, as the hallmarking shall become mandatory, jewellers will be able to sell only 14K, 18K and 22k gold jewellery. Notably, as per a leading business dailies report, a meeting was scheduled to be held today between the central government and the various stakeholders.
In the meeting, there is a possibility that the date of implementation of the gold hallmarking rule may be shifted forward. Also other rules may see a change
Furthermore, as and when the gold hallmarking rules comes into force given the likelihood of extension, gold jewellery with BIS (Bureau of Indian Standards) hallmarking will only be available in the country.
