Gold Prices Today Crash; 24K, 22K, 18K Gold Rates In Chennai, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Bangalore, Delhi More
Gold rates in India crashed on Thursday despite MCX gold price and spot gold rising by 1% each. Physical gold rates were impacted due to a surge in the US dollar that hit the highest level since April 2025 and treasury yields, which are at 24-year highs, keeping the rate hike scenario in October heightened. However, the decline in 24-carat, 22-carat, and 18-carat gold rates comes as a positive for demand ahead of the festive season this month. Gold prices in the majority of cities are impacted on October 1, 2026.

"Gold is caught in a tug-of-war. The Iran war, inflation and geopolitical uncertainty should be supportive, but rising yields and a stronger U.S. dollar are working in the opposite direction. These powerful forces with hawkish U.S FED are creating short-term pressure," said NS Ramaswamy, Head of Commodity, Ventura.
Explaining further, Ramaswamy said, gold's price drop this week could be attributed to China's "Golden Week" holidays which begins 1st Oct'26. Selling ahead of that holiday as gold market and shops would be closed. Some selling due to US-Iran tensions and some to the rise in interest rates. Gold is negatively aAected by "real rates".
He added that the Federal Reserve raised the federal funds target range to 3.75% to 4.00% on 16th Sep'26, its first hike in three years, and the market now prices roughly a 70% probability of a second hike in October. 2nd Oct'26 (Friday) payrolls decide the October Fed path. Fed hike was fully priced. Monday (28th Sep) proved the hike was priced but a second hike was not.
