Gold rates in India extended their gains at the start of the new week, with 24 Karat (24K) gold rising to Rs 15,566 per gram on August 17, 2026, up Rs 53 from the previous session. Meanwhile, 22 Karat (22K) gold climbed to Rs 14,270 per gram, gaining Rs 50. Silver prices remained steady at Rs 250 per gram and Rs 2,50,000 per kilogram.

The latest rise in gold comes as expectations of further Federal Reserve rate hikes have weakened, even as geopolitical tensions between the United States and Iran continue to keep markets on edge. According to the CME FedWatch Tool, the probability of a rate hike at the next Federal Open Market Committee meeting has dropped to just 15%, compared with more than 40% a month ago.

The shift in rate expectations has supported gold's recent momentum, as lower interest-rate expectations can weigh on the US dollar and increase the appeal of non-yielding assets such as gold.
