Gold Rates In India Today, October 22, 2026, Crashes Wild Up To Rs 17,000: 24K, 22K, 18K Gold Prices In Cities

Gold rates in India crashed sharply on Thursday, October 22, 2026, due to weakness in the global bullion market as the crude oil price skyrocketed to reach near $111 per barrel, keeping both energy crises and inflationary pressures heightened. Spot gold is below $4,100, and MCX gold is barely able to hold the Rs 1.44 lakh mark. Meanwhile, the 24-carat gold price plunged at least Rs 17,000, the 22-carat dropped as steeply as Rs 15,500, and the 18-carat gold price declined to 12,700. Physical gold rates are near their lowest level in October and near the 2-month low. If this trend continues, gold demand could rise in the Diwali festival; however, for buyers who bought gold during peak levels, the loss is heavy for now.

"Gold and silver futures are facing renewed pressure as investors reassess the US interest-rate outlook ahead of the Federal Reserve's October 27-28 meeting. Gold has weakened in international markets, while silver has seen a sharper decline in domestic trading. The near-term direction will depend on US inflation signals, Treasury yields and the dollar," said Vikram Subburaj, CEO, Giottus.com.

MCX Gold Price + MCX Silver Price

MCX gold and silver price crash intensifies on October 20th. MCX gold futures for December 2026 expiry, plummeted by Rs 1,830 or 1.3% to struggle around Rs 1,44,249 per 10 gram, which is close to its intraday low of Rs 1,44,196.

Meanwhile, MCX silver futures for December 2026 expiry nosedived by Rs 5,618 or 2.7% to trade around Rs 2,03,550 per 1Kg, which is near its intraday low of Rs 2,03,520 per 1Kg.

"On the MCX, December gold futures were last reported at Rs 1,46,041 per 10 grams on October 21, down 0.33% from the previous close of Rs 1,46,519. The contract traded between Rs 1,45,525 and Rs 1,46,532. December silver futures were quoted at Rs 2,09,184 per kg, down 1.09% from the previous close of ₹2,11,485. Its reported range was Rs 2,08,525 to Rs 2,10,879. These are previous-session reference figures, not confirmed opening prices for October 22," said Subburaj.

Spot Gold Price + Spot Silver Price

Spot gold has erased its pivotal $4,100 per ounce and is currently trading around $4,092 per ounce down by 1.2%. Meanwhile, spot silver dropped by a steep 2.7% to trade below $56.4 per ounce.

In the expert's opinion, investors are also watching upcoming US inflation data for clues on the Federal Reserve's policy path.

The US Federal Reserve is widely expected to keep interest rates unchanged next week, after Chair Kevin Warsh's remarks last Friday did little to alter expectations for a pause. However, markets continued to anticipate a potential Fed rate hike in December amid persistent energy-driven inflation. The European Central Bank and the Bank of Japan are also expected to maintain their current interest rates next week, as per Trading Economics.

What Should Indian Investors Do In Gold?

For Indian investors, Subburaj said that the gold's immediate support lies near Rs 1,45,500 per 10 grams. A sustained move above Rs 1,46,500 could indicate stabilisation. Silver needs to defend the Rs 2,08,500 zone, while a recovery above Rs 2,10,900 would ease near-term pressure.

The current weakness does not automatically signal a prolonged downtrend. He added, investors should avoid chasing intraday moves, use measured position sizes and wait for fresh MCX prices and clearer global cues before making directional bets.
