Gold Rates Prediction During US Midterm: Republican vs Democrats, Whose Victory Will Lift Precious Metals?

The US midterm election voting will begin on November 3, 2026, and the bullion market is awaiting with bated breaths over the outcome. Generally, precious metals like gold and silver have historically reacted to economic, fiscal and monetary policies. However, in the heightened geoeconomics environment, gold and silver are expected to be more reactive to the midterm election. Currently, the odds are in favour of democrats regaining some strength in Congress.

US Midterm Elections Poll

The midterm elections in the USA are going to be held on November 3, 2026, which will be the second term of Republican president Donald Trump.

As per Marist Poll, a majority of likely voters nationally say they are more likely to vote for the Democratic running for Congress in their district rather than the Republican, giving the Democrats an 8-point lead on the generic congressional ballot question. With negative views toward President Donald Trump permeating the electoral landscape, a plurality of likely voters say their congressional vote is one in opposition to the president.

Accordingly, the Democrats are expected to gain victory in midterm elections with 8-point advantage.

The poll pointed out that the Democratic candidates running for Congress (52%) lead the Republican candidates (44%) among likely voters nationally. Among registered voters, in October, the Democrats have a 10-point lead. In September, the Democrats had a 12-point advantage on the generic congressional ballot question among registered voters.

How US Midterm Elections Will Impact Gold And Silver Rates?

As the US approaches midterm election voting day, the question is whose victory could spur a buying trend in gold and silver, which have crashed significantly in 2026 despite geopolitical tensions and inflationary pressures.

In the current time, gold has likely lost its safe-haven trademark in terms of hedging returns against rising inflation.

Historically, the results of US elections have had little effect on gold's performance, and the last two elections are testimony. For instance, spot gold declined and US stocks rallied during Trump's victories in 2016 and 2024.

Since the poll suggests victory for Democrats, as per the World Gold Council report, a control from the blue team in the congress house will likely constrain the Trump administration's legislative agenda and spending plans. Taking the Senate would broaden and strengthen that constraint.

WGC's note added that the implications for gold would depend on how this alters fiscal policy, market uncertainty and the use of executive power.

Juan Carlos Artigas, Regional CEO (Americas) and Global Head of Research at WGC, believes holding all else equal, gridlock could have varying consequences on US policy, which, in turn, influences gold's performance in various ways:

1. Fiscal policy:

Assuming a democratic control in the midterm, they could limit the administration's ability to pass deficit-expanding legislation.

This could ease concerns that large deficits at near-full employment will sustain inflation and reignite Treasuries' safe-haven appeal on, and support for the US dollar. And if tariffs come under pressure, that could also increase the deficit. A contracting deficit could put pressure on gold but an expanding one would further support it.

2. War funding:

In Democrats' victory, the war funding could be limited and potentially encourage a de-escalation of the Iran conflict.

In turn, Carlos believes this could ease energy prices, reduce inflation expectations, and soften bond yields and the dollar, providing some tailwinds for gold. De-escalation of the conflict could also reduce the perceived need for some central banks and sovereign wealth funds to mobilise their gold, as occurred in March 2026.

On balance, he added that this could generally be supportive of gold, even though its geopolitical premium might subside.

3. Artificial Intelligence:

A democratic victory could constrain support for AI or bring tighter regulation. Against a backdrop in which investors are questioning whether hyperscale spending will deliver promised returns, pressure on technology equities could deepen while confidence and spending weaken due to negative wealth effects.

Further, stronger household balance sheets may help contain financial distress, although greater equity exposure leaves consumption vulnerable to falling valuations. A wealth-driven slowdown would possibly offer a more supportive backdrop for gold, with less pressure to sell liquid assets to raise cash. Weaker equities, softer growth expectations, lower yields, and potentially a weaker dollar would likely support gold.

4. Executive and emergency powers:

Once again, greater Congressional constraints could push the Trump administration towards wider use of executive orders and emergency powers. The resulting institutional conflict, legal challenges and less predictable policymaking could raise both political and geopolitical risk premia, potentially supporting gold.

Equally, recurring conflict between Congress and the administration could make US foreign policy even less predictable, reinforcing geopolitical risk and longer-term incentives for reserve diversification into gold, as per Carlos.

However, if Trump's Republican witnessed a surprise victory or exceeded expectations. Then, Carlos said, "We can only wait to see and analyse the nuances should this be the result. Overall, we would expect gold investors, especially those outside the US, to continue supporting gold demand as they have done over the past 18 months."

Gold Rates & Silver Rates:

At present, spot gold is near its one-year low towards $3,900 per ounce. The bullion has plunged by 6% on a month-on-month basis and down by 2.4% on a year-on-year basis.

Similarly, spot silver is also near its 1-year low to struggle to hold $50 per ounce. However, compared to gold, silver has crashed steeper by more than 18% on month-on-month performance. But silver is still higher by 4% on year-on-year performance against gold.
