Gold rates and silver rates in India showed mixed trend on the first day of August month. On Saturday, Indian gold rates crash up to Rs 4,000 in 100 grams of 24 carat and down by Rs 400 in 10 grams. On the contrary, silver prices stood steady and around Rs 2.35 lakh per 1Kg.
Physical gold rates slipped after spot gold dropped by nearly 1.5% overnight to $4,043 per ounce. Spot silver crashed harder by 2.4% to hold below $57.62 per ounce. MCX gold ended the month of July 2026 below Rs 1,41,600 per 10 grams, while MCX silver is under Rs 2,17,500 per 1Kg.
Nonetheless, 24 carat, 22 carat and 18 carat gold prices outperformed silver in July 2026 with over 2% monthly gains. Silver was down by 2-3% overall.
This week, elevated crude oil prices, US Fed's rates decision, geopolitical risks and dollar movement impacted precious metals.
Also, despite volatility, spot gold managed to gain by 0.5% in overall July, its first monthly increase since February, supported by softer US inflation data and the Federal Reserve's decision to keep interest rates unchanged. Gains were capped by expectations of tighter monetary policy, with markets pricing in about a 65% chance of a Fed rate hike in September. While Chair Kevin Warsh reaffirmed the Fed's commitment to lowering inflation without signaling an imminent hike, the three officials who dissented this week reiterated on Friday that further tightening is needed. Meanwhile, renewed US-Iran hostilities continued to cloud the outlook, with fresh US strikes on Iranian targets reducing hopes for a near-term diplomatic resolution. Since the conflict erupted in late February, higher oil prices have fueled inflation concerns and weighed on gold by strengthening expectations for higher interest rates, as per Trading Economics.
