Gold Rates Today (26-05-2026) Crash By Rs 5,500 In Chennai, Hyderabad; Silver Rates Flat; 24K, 22K, 18K Gold
Gold rates in India fell sharply on May 26, 2026, tracking the bearish sentiment in MCX metals and the international bullion market. In comparison to cities, gold rates plunged the most, by up to Rs 5,500 in Chennai compared to Hyderabad, where 24 carat gold dropped by nearly Rs 5,000. However, silver, which has crashed by 2% at MCX and globally, is unchanged in these two cities. Gold is more expensive in Chennai than compared to Hyderabad despite the latest decline across the country.
What Is Impacting Precious Metals Today?

Among major reasons for why gold prices in India stumbled steeply are the renewed tensions in the Middle East, with the US military attacking several missile infrastructures and vessels after reportedly Iran attempted to deploy mines in its southern region. This heightens fear of inflationary risks at a time when the market is hoping for a negotiation between the US and Iran.
The US military attack is despite President Donald Trump's latest statement of negotiations.
President Donald Trump said talks with Tehran were progressing well, though he warned that additional attacks could follow if negotiations broke down. The US and Iran are currently discussing a framework that would extend the ceasefire for roughly two months, during which Washington would lift its blockade while Tehran would reopen the Strait of Hormuz, as per Trading Economics.
Hence, following the vulnerable situation, investors sentiment turned cautious in safe haven, while crude oil prices climbed by 1% after their 6% crash in the previous session. Also, dollar index reclaimed above 99 mark, which further added to woes.
At MCX, gold futures are down to RS 1.58 lakh, while MCX silver futures crashed below Rs 2.72 lakh. In the global market, spot gold dropped by 1% to struggle around $4,530 per ounce and spot silver nosedived by 2% to trade below $77 per ounce.
All these factors played a key role in dampening investors' appetite for physical gold rates accordingly.
