This Diwali, jewellers predict volatile momentum in gold buying. As per Colin Shah, MD, Kama Jewelry, the softening of gold prices has brought timely cheer to Indian consumers, especially with the peak of the festive season approaching. With gold prices remaining at elevated levels, consumer demand has shifted towards lightweight, studded jewellery in the 9K to 19K range.
This shift has also driven demand for both lab-grown and natural diamonds, particularly in the ticket size range of Rs 1.5 lakh to Rs 3 lakh.
Overall, he added, while value-wise demand is expected to remain at similar levels to last year, volume-wise sales may see a slight decline of around 10%, owing to the rise in gold prices in rupee terms, influenced by the INR/USD exchange rate.

Last week, commodity markets underwent a sharp shift in sentiment this week, as the outcome of the U.S. midterm elections, evolving expectations around Federal Reserve policy and mounting concerns over the global technology sector reshaped investor positioning. Gold and silver rebounded from recent lows, with gold posting its strongest weekly gain since August, as per Ponmudi R, CEO of Enrich Money.
The key macroeconomic development was the shift in market expectations surrounding the Federal Reserve's December policy decision. While the Fed had left interest rates unchanged at its October meeting, subsequent remarks by two officials favouring further gradual rate increases to contain persistent inflation added to expectations of additional monetary tightening.
Notably, the October U.S. employment report, released on Friday, reinforced this hawkish outlook, with nonfarm payrolls rising by 165,000 against market expectations of 65,000, while the unemployment rate edged down to 4.1% from 4.2%. The stronger-than-expected labour-market data pushed the implied probability of a December rate hike to around 81%. U.S. Treasury yields moved higher in response, with the 10-year yield approaching 4.88%, while the dollar strengthened, renewing downward pressure on precious metals towards the close of the week.
Gold Rates Outlook Ahead
As per Ponmudi, the coming week is likely to be shaped by fresh inflation readings and signals from Federal Reserve officials, as investors reassess the likelihood of another interest-rate increase in December following the stronger-than-expected U.S. jobs report. For precious metals, the interplay between the dollar, bond yields and changing expectations of monetary tightening will remain central to price direction, with any further strengthening in the dollar or rise in Treasury yields potentially limiting the upside. Crude oil, meanwhile, will remain particularly sensitive to developments surrounding the US-Iran conflict.
Progress towards a negotiated settlement could deepen the recent correction in oil prices, easing concerns over energy-led inflation, while any escalation involving shipping routes or regional infrastructure could trigger a fresh spike in prices. For Indian commodity markets, movements in the rupee will add another layer to domestic price formation, particularly for imported bullion and energy products. Against this backdrop, volatility is likely to persist across the commodity complex, with monetary-policy signals, currency movements and geopolitical developments setting the tone for the week ahead.
Meanwhile, Jateen Trivedi, VP Research Analyst - Commodity and Currency, LKP Securities believes softer crude oil prices could ease inflationary pressures and provide further support to gold. Going ahead, US Non-Farm Payrolls and unemployment data due later today will be crucial in determining the next move, particularly with COMEX Gold hovering near $4,000.
