Google to Build $15 Billion AI Data Centre in Vizag; CM Chandrababu Naidu to Lay Foundation on April 28

Google is advancing a $15 billion AI data centre project in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, spanning 600 acres with a 1 GW initial phase and 5 GW target, including a subsea cable landing station and fibre network to support India and regional AI workloads.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu will on April 28 lay the foundation stone for Google’s $15 billion artificial intelligence (AI) data centre in Visakhapatnam. Spread across Rambilli, Adavivaram and Tarluvada, the 600‑acre campus is planned as a gigawatt‑scale compute hub with its own subsea gateway. It is among Google’s largest single foreign direct investment projects in India over five years.

$15 Billion Google AI Hub in Visakhapatnam to Mark One of India’s Largest Tech Investments

The Vizag facility will be Google’s first dedicated AI hub in India and is planned as a 1‑gigawatt campus in the initial phase. Overall capacity is aimed at 5 gigawatts, which is projected to exceed three times India’s total data centre capacity recorded in late 2025. The network of facilities is also expected to evolve into Asia’s largest data centre cluster by July 2028.

Google signed an agreement with the Andhra Pradesh government in October 2025 to develop the AI‑driven campus, with investment planned at about $15 billion across five years. The project spans three sites around Visakhapatnam, covering 600 acres in Rambilli, Adavivaram and Tarluvada. Along with data halls, the hub will host an international subsea‑cable landing station that links directly into Google Cloud and AI platforms serving customers across India.

AdaniConnex, Bharti Airtel to Power Google’s Vizag AI Data Centre

The project brings in AdaniConnex and Bharti Airtel as key infrastructure partners. AdaniConnex will design and build the core data‑centre systems, including gigawatt‑scale AI facilities, renewable‑linked power supply, transmission lines and energy‑storage solutions so the complex can run on green power where possible.

Bharti Airtel will construct and manage the high‑capacity fibre network and a new international subsea cable landing station in Vizag.

Airtel’s systems are intended to deliver low‑latency, high‑bandwidth connectivity for Google Cloud services and AI workloads throughout India. The combined infrastructure is meant to support global operations while anchoring more regional workloads in India. Project completion is targeted for July 2028, aligning with the five‑year investment window mapped out under the October 2025 understanding with the Andhra Pradesh government.

The AI hub is expected to create a large number of specialised roles and support services in and around Visakhapatnam. Google says the campus will help build a broader "AI ecosystem" for young people in Andhra Pradesh, with jobs linked to cloud operations, data‑centre management and related technology functions. Training requirements and indirect employment in construction and services are also expected to rise.

Google Vizag AI Data Centre Foundation Ceremony: CM Chandrababu Naidu & Google Executives to Attend

The foundation-laying event will bring together N. Chandrababu Naidu, senior leaders from Google and representatives of partner firms, highlighting the scale and strategic importance of the Vizag project. The proposed data centre is part of Google’s broader push into artificial intelligence, which includes significant global investments such as its planned funding in Anthropic.

Alongside infrastructure expansion, Google has been advancing AI integration across its ecosystem, from productivity tools to developer platforms. The Visakhapatnam data-centre cluster is expected to serve as a key physical backbone for these ambitions in India.
