Government Appoints Neelkanth Mishra As Part-Time Chairman of The UIDAI Board

Neelkanth Mishra, Chief Economist at Axis Bank and Head of Global Research at Axis Capital, has been named as the part-time chairman of Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). Part-time members will include Nilesh Shah, Managing Director of Kotak Mahindra Asset Management Company Limited, and Prof Mausam, Associate Professor of Computer Science at IIT Delhi. The developments came after senior IAS official Amit Agrawal was appointed CEO of UIDAI. The three engagements are for three years or until the age of 65, whichever is earlier.

Prior to joining Axis Bank, Mishra spent two decades at Credit Suisse, where he held positions such as Co-head of APAC Strategy, India Equity Strategy Head, and Head of Research, India. Mishra joined Axis Bank in May 2023 as Chief Economist and Head of Global Research after serving for more than two decades at Credit Suisse, as per MoneyControl.

The Institutional Investor and Asia Money surveys ranked him among the top analysts in India. He is a member of the Advisory Council to the Fiftieth Finance Commission and has served as an advisor to government-appointed groups such as the RNR Committee on GST and the FRBM Review Committee. Based in Mumbai, Singapore, and Taipei, Neelkanth has worked on Metals & Mining, Indian Pharmaceuticals, Taiwan lC design, semiconductor foundries, and Asian tech strategy research.

Prior to joining Credit Suisse, he worked for Infosys Technologies as a Senior Technical Architect. He has also worked for Hindustan Lever Limited and is a business owner. Neelkanth is a gold medalist from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, with a degree in computer science and engineering, as per the data available on Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister (EAC-PM).
