The Centre on Friday has given a go-ahead for a 8.1% rate for EPF for 2021-22, which is an over 4-decade low. This means the interest shall be soon credited in 5 crore subscribers.

In the previous year, the rate was at a 8.5% for 2020-21.
As per the EPFO's order, , the Ministry of Labour and Employment has given its approval of the central government to credit an 8.1 percent rate of interest for 2021-22 to each member of the EPF scheme. The labour ministry had sent the proposal to the Ministry of Finance for its concurrence.
This rate of interest is at the lowest since 1977-1978 when the interest rate has been at barely 8%.
It is worth mentioning that in 2018-19, the rate was at 8.65% and in 2019-20 was reduced to a seven year low of 8.5% in 2019-20.
